Centre resolution is very good but corner sharpness is disappointing....

Soft, chromatic aberration

It's a sad fact that the majority of DSLR users will stick to the kit lens for their photography, and if you persist with this lens, you're really letting your images down. Chromatic aberration, distortion and sharpness range from average to poor.

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II is usually sold as part of a Canon EOS 20D or EOS 350D (RebelXT) "kit".The word "kit" already implies that it is meant as a budget solution. EF-S refers to short-backfocuslenses which are only compatible to APS-C...

In lens land there's no such thing as a free lunch and the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II is an example for that.Under controlled conditions (stopping down two stops at 18mm) the lens can provide very decent results -certainly more than enough for casual...

The same quality as the 18-55 presents, but not so bad for a kit lens.

Enough sharp over 5.6, but AF is slow

Used lens with damaged AF (chip failure). Build quality is a bit better, than 18-55. Better multi coatings, but image quality is the same
