Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R

 

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R is showing its age, but is still a good choice for X shooters who prefer lightweight lenses.

Light and compact. Wide angle coverage. Opens up to f/2. Very little vignette.

Omits dust and splash protection. Weak edge performance, even when stopped down. Focus hunts in AF-C.

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R has some marks in its favor. It's quite small and light, covers a classic wide field of view, gathers a heck of a lot of light, and focuses close enough for most shots you want to capture with a 27mm equivalent lens....

Fuji 18mm f/2 R review

 

Fuji's fast 27mm equivalent prime gets tested

Aperture ring with 1/3 click stops ; Non-rotating front element ; Solid feeling build quality

Extends during focusing ; Not weather sealed ; Sharpness falls off in the corners

Corner sharpness isn't great and colour fringing is worse than average but the overall image quality of the Fuji XF 18mm f/2 R is pretty good.

image quality near the maximum relative aperture on the edge of the frame should have been better,, very high distortion,, distinct coma (but only at the maximum relative aperture),, high vignetting,, not very accurate autofocus.
