Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a good alternative to an 18-55mm kit lens; it's sharp throughout its zoom range, and affordable.

Very sharp. Vibration reduction system. Sturdy build. Attractive price

Competing lenses feature 18-135mm zoom range. Some distortion. Softer edges at longer focal lengths

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ($399.95 direct) is Nikon's take on a popular lens design—the enhanced kit lens. Most SLRs ship with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom that cuts some corners in its manufacturing quality and optical design in...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR

Inexpensive. Optically stabilized. Light. Quite sharp. Useful zoom range.

Inexpensive. Optically stabilized. Light. Quite sharp. Useful zoom range

Narrow aperture. Hood not included. Wide-angle distortion. Front element rotates during focus. Plastic lens mount

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ($199.95 direct) is the standard kit lens for APS-C Nikon D-SLR cameras. Buying it along with a body halves your out of pocket costs to acquire the lens, but owners of older Nikon D-SLRs bundled with its...

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens

In order to do my part in the economic recovery I recently bought a new Nikon D300, a SB-900 flash and wanted to get a good all around lens to keep on it most of the time. My criteria were it had to have wide angle, a decent telephoto range and have VR...

Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm G ED VR has optics that are surprisingly very good for a lens in this price range

Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR

The Nikkor DX 18-55mm VR was announced in November 2007 as the company's latest budget kit lens. It will work on any Nikon DX format DSLR, although is best-suited to the entry-level models like the D40, D40x and D60. The lens has become a standard...

VR effectively combats camera-shake ; Relatively quick and quiet SWM focusing ; Compact and light ; Good performance for the money ; Bad points ; Front section rotates when focusing ; Basic manual focusing facilities ; Doesn't come with lens hood ;...

Front section rotates when focusing ; Basic manual focusing facilities ; Doesn't come with lens hood ; Previous Mark II lens better in some tests

Ultimately while the older DX 18-55mm II still gives excellent innings, the new DX 18-55mm VR performs very well for the money, offering compelling features and respectable quality that puts many rival kit lenses to shame. It's certainly a good time...

Nikkor 18-105mm lens

Nikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR. The new Nikkor lens, with a focal length between 18 and 105 mm, is a high performance and cost efficient lens with a focal length equivalent to 27 to 157.5...

NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II

Nikon's new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II lens (27–300mm 35mm equivalent) is an updated version of their popular 18–200mm lens that covers a significant 11.1x focal-length range and probably most of a photographer's shooting needs.

Compact; wide coverage; effective Vibration Reduction

Lens creep; distortion

I used the lens with a Nikon D300s and D3000 and found it great for traveling light. It's capable of producing high-quality pictures; however, it does have some distortion issues.—Steve Baczewski

"Great all around lens. Horrible plastic mounting."

Take extra precautions when using and storing...

Great lens for all around use. Crisp and clear. Easy to focus and manipulate

Lens mount is cheap, thin and horribly unstable plastic. I have had the mount repaired once already and it has broken again. Area around lens cap is also starting to wear after one year of use. Nothing drastic or faulty but cometically ugly

Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens

Take extra precautions when using and storing this lens. Cold weather will cause the lens mount to snap. A slight bump will cause the mount to snap. Nikon will repair the lens if under warranty (and no signs of dropping) but the repair time is LONG.

Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens

I sure am surprised that I am the first person to review this awesome lens! I am very happy that I decided to drop the $250 on this lens. I was shooting with the Nikon 18-70mm lens, which was already great for a main lens - but I was ready for...

Got it with a D90 kit. this is probably one of the most satisfying kit lens in the market. It produce picture quality that isn't visually worse than any other expensive lens. VR works great and saved many of my pics. however the swm is a bit slower...

Product Specifications

Designed for exclusive use with PENTAX KAF-mount digital SLR cameras, the new lens offers 4X zoom coverage in the telephoto range. Further, the lens features an angle of view from 31.5 degrees to 8.1 degrees (equivalent in focal length from 76.5mm to 306mm in the 35mm format). As with all DA-Series lenses, this DA 50mm-200mm features a responsive "Quick-Shift Focus System" that allows photographers to instantly switch the focus mode from auto to manual with a slight twist of the focus ring. Coupled with a simple, functional design and the elimination of an aperture ring, this new mechanism considerably improves operability. The lens also incorporates an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens element and two aspherical lens elements for true-to-life image reproduction and overall size reduction. The image circle in DA-series lenses is designed to perfectly match the 23.5mm x 15.7mm size of the CCD used in PENTAX digital SLRs to optimize camera performance. The new design also contributes to a drastic reduction in size, weight and production cost, compared to 35mm-format counterparts with similar specifications.
