Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens

In order to do my part in the economic recovery I recently bought a new Nikon D300, a SB-900 flash and wanted to get a good all around lens to keep on it most of the time. My criteria were it had to have wide angle, a decent telephoto range and have VR...

Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm G ED VR has optics that are surprisingly very good for a lens in this price range

Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR

The Nikkor DX 18-55mm VR was announced in November 2007 as the company's latest budget kit lens. It will work on any Nikon DX format DSLR, although is best-suited to the entry-level models like the D40, D40x and D60. The lens has become a standard...

VR effectively combats camera-shake ; Relatively quick and quiet SWM focusing ; Compact and light ; Good performance for the money ; Bad points ; Front section rotates when focusing ; Basic manual focusing facilities ; Doesn't come with lens hood ;...

Front section rotates when focusing ; Basic manual focusing facilities ; Doesn't come with lens hood ; Previous Mark II lens better in some tests

Ultimately while the older DX 18-55mm II still gives excellent innings, the new DX 18-55mm VR performs very well for the money, offering compelling features and respectable quality that puts many rival kit lenses to shame. It's certainly a good time...

Nikkor 18-105mm lens

Nikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR. The new Nikkor lens, with a focal length between 18 and 105 mm, is a high performance and cost efficient lens with a focal length equivalent to 27 to 157.5...

NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II

Nikon's new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II lens (27–300mm 35mm equivalent) is an updated version of their popular 18–200mm lens that covers a significant 11.1x focal-length range and probably most of a photographer's shooting needs.

Compact; wide coverage; effective Vibration Reduction

Lens creep; distortion

I used the lens with a Nikon D300s and D3000 and found it great for traveling light. It's capable of producing high-quality pictures; however, it does have some distortion issues.—Steve Baczewski

Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

The Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens is a good choice for someone who wants more than the basic kit lens has to offer, while remaining compact and lightweight.

Consistently sharp ; Lightweight

All plastic construction, including lens mount

The Nikon 18-105mm DX ED VR is sort of a kit lens on steroids; it has the all-plastic construction of a basic kit lens but adds VR and an extended zoom range. If you want to equip your Nikon DX dSLR with something more than the basic 18-55mm kit lens...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

A budget standard zoom for Nikon DX SLRs with a range equivalent to 27-158mm on a 35mm camera, Vibration Reduction and a silent focusing motor.

Useful 'walkabout' zoom range; Decent optical performer; Very good value; VR performs well; Lightweight

AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II Lens

An extended range zoom for Nikon APS-C camera owners who want a single lens that covers most popular focal lengths. The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II is a minor redesign of a previous lens. It features a new zoom mechanism for reducing...

On test, this lens was well matched to the sensor in the D300s in terms of colour rendition and contrast. However, it was found to suffer from noticeable barrel distortion at the 18mm focal length setting. This was largely resolved by 24mm but changed...

Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC HSM

Review of the Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC HSM lens

Excellent value for money

Restricted maximum aperture

The entry-level 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 does look a little bare. It doesn't have a focused-distance window (and therefore no depth-of-field indication) but the entry-level Sigma doesn't even have any external distance markings. It is, however, exceptionally...

Nikon AF-S 18-70mm G ED IF

Not many years ago it would have been pure fancy to propose a £200 lens that featured ED glass, an aspherical element, internal focusing and instant manual intervention in AF mode yet that is precisely what Nikon offers in its 18-70mm zoom......

Impressive zoom range and consistent image quality

Poor storage arrangement for lens hood

The mid-priced 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5, is much more than just the ideal compromise. Not many years ago it would have been pure fancy to propose a £200 lens that featured ED glass, an aspherical element, internal focusing and instant manual intervention in...

Product Specifications

Designed for exclusive use with PENTAX KAF-mount digital SLR cameras, the new lens offers 4X zoom coverage in the telephoto range. Further, the lens features an angle of view from 31.5 degrees to 8.1 degrees (equivalent in focal length from 76.5mm to 306mm in the 35mm format). As with all DA-Series lenses, this DA 50mm-200mm features a responsive "Quick-Shift Focus System" that allows photographers to instantly switch the focus mode from auto to manual with a slight twist of the focus ring. Coupled with a simple, functional design and the elimination of an aperture ring, this new mechanism considerably improves operability. The lens also incorporates an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens element and two aspherical lens elements for true-to-life image reproduction and overall size reduction. The image circle in DA-series lenses is designed to perfectly match the 23.5mm x 15.7mm size of the CCD used in PENTAX digital SLRs to optimize camera performance. The new design also contributes to a drastic reduction in size, weight and production cost, compared to 35mm-format counterparts with similar specifications.
