Overall Excellent Primary Lens

Not bad for infant portraits, and a really excellent macro lens if you can get close to the subject. With the high ISO capabilities of modern SLRs, a very large maximum aperture is not as important as it used to be.

Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G

This is probably my best lens as far as image quality goes. Sometimes the images have a three-dimensional quality about them. They are in any case very sharp.

Image quality ; I think it's the sharpest lens I have ; Clarity and contrast ; Small size ; Low cost

Can't think of anything

great lens, great price

The depth of field is a fundamental property of the lens and f-stop. The manufacturer has little control over this, but prospective buyers should not be surprised to see some blurry images. In some circumstances it is necessary to use manual focus...

Flawless autofocus ; Lightweight ; Manual focus very easy ; Short overall length

Narrow depth of field
