Lens Test: Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G DX ED VR AS-S

Nikon's longest zoom for cameras with APS-C-size sensors (DX format), this 5.5X 55?300mm f/4.5?5.6G VR ($360, street) scales up to the full-frame equivalent of 82.5?450mm. It offers two elements of ED glass, a high-refractive-index glass element (a DX...

Lens Review: Nikon 55-200mm F/4-5.6G AF-S VR DX IF-ED

Also, like the Canon, this Nikon lens lacks a focus distance scale. On this lens the manual focus ring looks almost like an afterthought tacked on to the front end of the lens.

Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Review Round-Up

The Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED DX delivered a more convincing performance compared to its kit companion (18-55mm DX). The resolution is very high throughout the zoom range (best at 55mm) and there's only a slight decrease in contrast at large...

Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom Lens

This is an amazing lens!! The vibration reduction (VR) significantly improves clearness of the photos while the shutter speed is 1/8 sec (probably also great +/- 2 stops). Two sample photos are provided, taken with 1/8 sec. It is light weight,...

Vibration reduction (VR), light weight, price, 52mm front threads

Plastic-made

Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom Lens

Great lens for the price. Can't anyone beat a lens at this price range with Vibration Reduction. Very great photos, just not great in low light situations, which is very understandable giving the price range. Cant beat it for the price.

VR, Sharp, great photo quality, and light

Plastic Mount, not great in low light situations

Product Specifications

High-power 4.3x Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor lens (Approximates the picture angle performance of a 105-450mm lens on 35mm SLR). Vibration Reduction (VRII) minimizes the effects of camera shake allowing photographers to shoot handheld at as many as 4 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper images. When used on Nikon DX format DSLR Two Nikon Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements deliver superior optical performance for both digital and 35mm photography. ED glass minimizes chromatic aberrations, contributing to superb contrast and resolution performance. Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet auto focusing without changing the length of the lens, retaining subject-working distance through the focus range. Focus as close as 4.9 ft throughout entire zoom range. Non-Rotating front element provides for convenient use of circular polarizing filters and the Nikon Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System. A Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables fast and quiet autofocusing, along with quick switching between autofocus and manual operation (M/A and M). A nine-blade rounded diaphragm opening, out-of-focus elements appear more natural.
