Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

A short time ago we checked how the classic 20 mm lens, designed by Canon for analogue devices, fares in the era of digital reflex cameras. The result was not very impressive because the image quality of that expensive prime 2.8/20 lens practically...

very good image quality in the frame centre ; well-corrected astigmatism ; correct work against bright light ; no reservations about autofocus work ; compact and quite solid barrel at the same time

weak image quality on the edge of the frame ; high chromatic aberration ; noticeable distortion ; visible coma ; high vignetting ; steep price

Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

I love this and always carry 2 lwnses: this one and my favorite Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AF-D

Very sharp, acceptable vignette, minor barrel, accurate and fast AF

Mine is not smooth at the time of attach/detach

Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

Using on D7000 with no fall off and very good optic quality due to crop image on dx format.

Light weight, sharp, always on the back bag

Nothing, but focus ring movement on auto focus

Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

I love this lens, even made a mistake of selling it when I got Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 but bought another one again. Great for travel and everyday. Really quality lens in a small package. Ideal focal length on a DX for me.

Sharp, images have that "pop" that even 2.8 zooms don't give me. Great focal length on DX, good build, small, light

No focusing motor so it doesn't work on cheaper bodies, on my D300 AF is fast but focusing ring turns under your fingers, small body so there is no space to hold it well

Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

A winner.

Good flare resistance, not as much CA as tests indicate (D7000 RAW), great close focus, perfect size/weight

AF occasionally off at close focus points

Nikon Nikkor AF 20 mm f/2.8D

A good, light prime lens for wide FX work and a decent street lens for DX when you have a good amount of light to work with. Would pick up a Nikkor 28mm if having the wide field of view at 20mm is not important to you.

Built like a tank. Feels very solid. Quite wide on FX and film

Very soft everywhere @ f/2.8 and the bokeh is not so good
