I hear lots of moans about bad focus and softness.STOP YOU NEED TO CALIBRATE THIS LENSthat is to say each camera has to be set with the fine tune my D800 is +5 this improves the lens no-end the same for the 24-70, 14-24 & 70-200 DO NOT EXPECT MUCH...

Enable shots not to be missed better to have something in the bag than not at all. Great for Street carnivals and such Slow lens, but really with cameras going up to riduculas ISO ranges this is less of a problemColour rendition superb

Little slow and would prefer a brighter lens (who would not)Slightly soft, but this is to be expected for the range.Autofocus still slow, but it has to cover a large range

Very good indeed as general-purpose lens, despite cost. Highly recommended

Very significant distortion at virtually all focal lengths, requiring correction in any photo with straight lines, NOT for architectural photography, also noticeable vignetting at either end of zoom range, esp. wide open

Very sharp at all focal lengths, even with Tamron 1.4 pro converter! Focuses v. fast even in low (non-existent!) light, reasonably light & compact for range (cf. equivalent Canon lens...). o v. good indeed.Great as single walk-about lens, especially...
