Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a sharp, compact walkaround lens, but it shows quite a lot of distortion throughout its zoom range.

Sharp throughout zoom range. 10.7x zoom ratio. Optical stabilization. Relatively compact.

Loads of distortion. Soft edges at maximum aperture.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR isn't an optically perfect, wide-aperture lens that doubles as a workhorse for pros and a dream lens for enthusiasts. But it is a pretty decent zoom for those times when you've got enough light to feed...

Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S Nikkor Review

The Nikon 28-300mm ƒ/3.5-5.6G AF-S VRII provided some questionable results for sharpness - so much so that we tested a second copy. The ''sombrero'' effect at 28mm is somewhat baffling, but it's likely that only discriminating users will notice this...

Nikon Nikkor AF-S 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

In days of analogues amateur megazooms were relatively popular but then you could meet 28-200 mm more often than 28-300 mm class lenses. It doesn't mean, though, that the latter were totally non-existent. Such cheap constructions were offered by Sigma...

wide and useful focal lengths range ; good build quality ; very good image quality in the frame centre ; slight distortion on DX sensor ; low astigmatism ; vignetting on DX sensor not bothersome at all ; efficient image stabilization ; silent and...

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Is Nikon's new 28-300mm the ideal travel lens for FX format cameras? Here Gary Wolstenholme puts the lens through its paces.

Good optical performance for a lens of this type; Fast silent focusing; Vibration reduction is very effective; Build quality

Maybe a bit on the pricey side; Distortion at 28mm and 300mm

If you're the proud owner of an FX format Nikon camera and are looking for something that gives you this kind of convenience for travel or simply to compliment your existing kit then this lens is certainly worth a look, that is if you've nearly £900 to...
