Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6

A compact super-telephoto lens giving an equivalent angle of view of a 140-600mm on a full frame camera.

600mm super-telephoto equivalent; Light weight; Close focus ability; Good optical quality when stopped down; Low distortion

Chromatic Aberrations at 300mm

Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 70-300 mm f/4.0-5.6

The beginning of this lens's test is untypical as I decided to start it with a kind of personal reflection. I like testing Olympus lenses very much and there are many reasons behind it. Above all, most of them are very well- made devices, popular and...

solid workmanship ; acceptable image quality at the frame edge ; chromatic aberration corrected properly (apart from the 300 mm and f/5.6 combination) ; low distortion ; very well-corrected coma ; slight astigmatism ; low vignetting ; accurate autofocus

too low image quality in the frame centre ; high chromatic aberration at 300 mm and the maximum relative aperture ; slow autofocus

REVIEW: Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6

The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm f/4-5.6 is ideal for nature photography due to the 2x crop factor doubling the focal length equivalent.

600mm super-telephoto equivalent; Light weight; Close focus ability; Good optical quality when stopped down; Low distortion

Poorer performance than I expected at maximum aperture; Chromatic Aberrations at 300mm

Good Lens

Using lens on an E510. Good lens, was concerned about how slow it was to focus and zoom until I updated the E510 firmware for the 150mm lens, after that zoomand focus were much faster, roughly equivalent to the Canon 250mm lens we use on a Canon XS....

Decent priced lens

Great value lens

This is an excellent lens for the price. I'm not sure what problems the other reviewer had, but I've always had great support from Newegg and will continue to use them.

Great reach! This lens is the equivalent of a 600mm lens on a full frame camera. It doubles as a macro lens. Lightweight lens for the reach it has

Needs a lot of light, works best at approx F8. Fairly slow focus

Since it's so cheap it's a must have in your photo bag.

I bought it as soon as it came out and couldn't be happier. Since the E510 I use it on has in-body IS this is a great pair. The reach of this lens is really something. I'd like to include some shots I did with it but the links are not allowed, however...

It tends to be a little slow in less bright days/locations but this is expectable and acceptable for the price ; Compare the price of any other lens with the same reach and you'll see

OLYMPUS ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 Super-telephoto Zoom Lens

Its a little weighty but it balances my camera out well.

Great zoom. Great price. Exactly what I needed to make my Olympus camera work for my basic needs. Best price around. Couldn't find a better deal especially while being deployed

Excellent Value Lens

Beautiful fit and finish. For the style of photography I do, this is a great lens value. New Egg was quick on getting the product to me and they were below the cost of most of the web camera dealers. Thanks New Egg.

So far, over 200 pictures taken during trials. Seems quick with Auto Focus which surprised me. Has adequate contrast for a close focus big zoom telephoto. I could not be happier with it so far. In studio tests and some outside snaps, this lens more...

The barrel seems to extend a long way in use, and to shut down, you need to zoom back in. This is normal for a big telephoto lens I suppose. The weight was a bit more than I expected

Took some hand held shots with my Olympus E-510 and was very impressed. May try to snap some of the lunar eclipse tonight if the weather in the upper mid-west allows it. Giving it a 5 for it's performance to value ratio.

Excellent range on this glass, excellent value, perfect for my needs since photography is a hobby and I really enjoy shooting pics with a tele-photo. Can be used for decent macro shots too

Slow to focus and sometimes hunts in AF mode, but if you want something faster (i.e. Zuiko 50-200mm SWD/f2.8-3.5), it will cost you
