Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm 1:4-5.6 Lens Review

The M. Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm F4-5.6 is Olympus's third lens for the Micro Four Thirds system to reach the market, covering the wideangle end of the spectrum. It was first announced at the same time as the E-P2 in November 2009 (alongside a...

Exceptionally small and lightweight ; Very good image quality ; Fast, practically silent autofocus ; Essentially no falloff/vignetting

Relatively high chromatic aberration ; Corners somewhat soft wide open (but sharpen up on stopping down) ; Slightly plastic build for the price

The M Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm F4-5.6 is on the whole a fine performer, consistently delivering detailed results across a wide range of shooting conditions. Central sharpness in particular is very high, even wide open, and resistance to flare is...

Olympus M ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6: A Very Versatile Wide

I think a lens system can be judged by its coverage of the shorter focal lengths (wide angle). Manufacturers are quick to cover the medium to longer telephoto ranges first, leaving those of us who shoot wide to wait in the sidelines. So I ...

Versatile wide range, very portable, great quality

No lens hood

Olympus 9-18mm f/4-5.6 ED Zuiko Digital review by sandstone

I've had this lens for a year and a half now, and it has become a huge favorite for taking on trips. I'm not a professional, but I am picky about image quality and very impressed with what this delivers, especially when one considers its size/price.

relatively light, low CA, smooth operation

Terrific Lens, great value.

Its the light weight coupled with the usual fantastic performance of zuiko lenses that makes this a budget winner. Ok its not going to win prizes for speed but if its landscapes that are your thing I cant recommend this lens highly enough.

Consistent Output","Easily Interchangeable","Lightweight

Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6

The Zuiko 9-18mm provides dramatic ultra-wide angle performance at an affordable price. The lens is compact, light and seems sturdy. Images are sharp with vivid colors.

Great at capturing wide angle images, landscapes, and even portraits with somewhat unusual angles. It is very lightweight and portable and works well with the E-520

Perhaps not quite as sharp as some of the higher end lenses but more than acceptable for the price. Images tend to show barrell distortion at the widest angle. Sometimes difficult to use with a flash indoors at the widest end as shadows caused by on...

bit of a specialty lens

Very nice and compact wide-angle, but the price, moderate f-stop and focus distance limits this to specialty users who need wide-angle for scenery or architectural shots outdoor during the day.

Easily Interchangeable","Fast \/ accurate auto-focus","Strong Construction

Poor in Low Light

This single lens is reason enough to get into m4/3! It makes the EPL1 really shine in IQ, AF and portability.

Excellent IQ, small, light, very cheap for the IQ

Olympus 9-18mm f/4-5.6 ED M.Zuiko Digital review by PeterB666

This is an outstanding lens, and despite the cost, great value for money. I got my lens from Japan and the price paid includes EMS shipping and currency conversion fees. It wound up cheaper than the Four Thrids equvalent lens is locally (Australia) so...

Very compact when stored, great image quality, excellent flare control

No lens hood or pouch supplied

This could easily be my main lens, good range for the way I (and a lot of people) shoot. Like the way it folds away for easy carrying.

9-18 good fit for wide to normal
