Pentax SMC FA 645 55-110mm f/5.6

The Pentax SMC FA 645 55-110mm f/5.6 brings the convenience of a zoom lens to medium format photography, but it's not as sharp as other lenses for the Pentax 645 system.

Light and compact. Minimal distortion. Even illumination. Focus clutch system.

Not as sharp as other medium format lenses. Narrow maximum aperture. Aperture dims viewfinder. Design isn't weather resistant.

Conclusions The Pentax SMC FA 645 55-110mm f/5.6 is a solid workhorse lens for medium format photographers who have invested in the Pentax 645 system. It's not a standout performer like the company's excellent HD D FA 645 Macro 90mm F2.8 ED AW SR , but...

SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 Review

John Riley reviews the classic Pentax 50mm f/1.4 prime lens on the the full-frame Pentax K-1.

High sharpness levels ; Low central CA ; Excellent colour ; Low flare ; Compact, light lens

No QuickShift ; No Weather Resistance ; Some edge CA

There is still a case for the fast standard lens. Zooms have convenience and avoid too much lens changing, but the fast prime lens is smaller, lighter and sometimes even of better quality. The quality issue is perhaps of less relevance as the results...

Pentax smc FA 50 mm f/1.4

Although 50 mm lenses on small APS-C/DX sensors have lost a bit of its versatility, they are still very popular among amateur photographers. These simple, efficient and well done optical constructions with good fastness are perfectly suitable for, e.g....

solid but small barrel ; excellent image quality up from f/2.0 ; low distortion ; acceptable astigmatism ; good autofocus work ; relatively good transmission ; good work against bright light on stopping down the aperture

noticeable „soap” by f/1.4 ; high chromatic aberration ; narrow and not very comfortable manual focus ring ; weak work against bright light at the maximum relative aperture ; too high coma

Pentax SMC-FA 50mm f/1.4

It took a while but welcome to the first Pentax lens test here at Photozone. As usual we'll start with a reference lens, typically 50mm primes and thePentax SMC FA 50mm f/1.4 qualifies here. Despite being one of the mostaffordable Pentax branded lenses...

The Pentax SMC-FA 50mm f/1.4 is an oldie but a goodie. At medium apertures thelens is capable to produce stellar resolution figures. Typical for such lensesthe results are a bit soft at f/1.4 and less so at f/2 but still usable. Distortions and...

The one perfect lens

If I had to chose a single lens and no others, this would probably be it. The substantial, solidly-built Pentax P-FA 50mm 1.4 is fast and sharp. It autofocuses extremely quickly, but is easily converted to a manual lens if desired via a switch on the...

Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC P-FA review by Tord

This is quite like the Pentax 50 I had 40 years ago, but it is optimized for a modern camera, and has autofocus, and an aperature ring, so you can set the aperature manually, if you want (excellent for 'dumb' extension tubes).

Fast, cheap, and compact

Very tiny focus ring

Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC P-FA review by Robert Kreutzmann

This is a top quality and rather cheap lens alternative to the highest quality and expensive lenses from the Pentax brand. I often use it as a all round lens under any situations; from the poor light indoor, in the sharp sunlight and in the portrait...

Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC P-FA review by grim grimsson

This lens is reasonably sharp from f2.8, but at wide open it is a bit soft. It is cheap, and for the price it is a good lens. If the extra cost is no issue, I prefer the 40mm limited lens, which is better in any aspect.
