This is my first macro lens are I'm having a lot of fun with it. As you might already know, f2.8 is extremely shallow and you need to stop down significantly for macro shots. f2.8 however does make for excellent portraits with this lens.

Pentax already has a 100mm macro option in its range - the Pentax smc D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro - but this newer version has the advantage of weather resistance.

Decent rice ; Comact and light ; Weatherroof ; Excellent sharness

Focusing system could be refined and made quieter ; Chromatic aberrations are noticeable

In a system that boasts the compact size of it's dSLR cameras, this lens fits well being solidly made and finished without being accompanied by a lot of bulk. The wide open performance is a little disappointing for a prime lens but improves rapidly...
