Samyang 8mm T3.8 Asph IF MC Fisheye Review

Gary Wolstenholm reviews the Samyang 8mm T3.8 Asph IF MC fisheye, a lens tailored for video recording.

Excellent sharpness in the centre when stopped down; Good build quality; Stepless aperture is an excellent feature for those recording video; Inexpensive; Stereographic projection

Geared focusing and aperture rings can be a little uncomfortable

Samyang 8mm F/3.5 Fisheye CS (AE) Lens – 48

This Samyang lens and I didn't get off to a good start for the simple fact it was fiddly to mount. There is no magic dot on the lens barrel to match with the camera body for easy mounting and once it was correctly aligned it was stiff to attach and...

Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye

This is a perfect fisheye. Fisheyes are used sparingly, so spending more than $500 is impractical which means all the others are too expensive. This is sharp, contrasty, small and great value. Set the aperture to 5.6, focus near infinity and enjoy...

Ridiculously good value. Solid build. Manual aperture and focus saves money, but doesn't compromise usability due to the vast depth of field. Pin sharp from corner to corner at f/5.6 and contrast is amazing. The distortion is more natural than other...

Lateral CA is high, but can be corrected. APS-C only, but that reduces costs

Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye

Very good on D7000, excellent on d300S. I have the newest AE version. Meters correctly

Colour rendition, flare resistance, fisheye distortion is always fun, AE version gets correct exposure and you can forget the aperture ring entirely

Not so sharp on 16mpx D7000. Very sharp on 12mpx D300S

Absolutely flawless!

Excellent build quality!!! Very good opticsSharpness (even in the corners)180 FOV Fun to useVery cheap

None...ok, maybe an AF version it would be nice, but that means higher price. Anyway, i like the retro feeling of the manual operation, and for this kind of lens, AF is not so important after all

Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye

This lens is just awesome, If you can't decide between this and a peleng, give it up, go for the samyang (also manufactured under different brands: rokinon, pro optics, falcon, etc. but basically it is the same lens). This lens won't disappoint you, it...

Great image quality even at corners. It actually fills the entire frame with image (no round corners), on an APS-C sensor camera.Rock-solid built. It looks nice and modern, not like a pre-cold war instrument (unlike the old peleng).Super easy to use,...

Focusing ring problems on some units (see on summary)

Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye

A great lens, even greater considering the price. I spent days just walking around playing with it. You rediscover everything through that eye.

Well built, optically good, everything you can ask for in a fisheye

The DOP is so great that it's sometimes easy to forget to focus

Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye

I love this lens. It should be smaller but it don´t mind so much. I use 2 focus setting - MFD for closer shots; 0,7m for everything else.

optically good lens, price, not too much distortion, on f/5,6 fall-off is gone

Big minimal focus distace, after f/3.5 is f/5,6 nothing between, no electronic info for camera - AE problems with lower models of Nikon
