Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM review by Gunars Grinvalds

I purchased this lens last week for my Sony A200 on purpose to replace Sony's old DT3,5-5,6/18-70 kit lens. I perform some tests to compare new lens with my Sony 18-70 and Sony DT 4-5,6/55-200 lenses.

Good sharpness, accurate, sufficiently fast and quiet AF, solid construction, reasonable price

Somewhat high chromatic aberration in 18-50 mm zoom region

Just got a Rebel XSi a couple of weeks ago after using a Minolta A2 for many years as my intro to digital. I have som older EF Canon and Tamron glass that I used on the Rebel for a couple of weeks to familiarize myself with the camera but never...

Compact and solid construction.Very flexible zoom range. Stablization included and works well

May be a bit heavy for some people

Important update: I discovered today, a year after posting the review below, that in fact this lens takes quite sharp photos wide open, but you have to focus manually, or use the slow focus in live view on a Canon. The autofocus just doesn't deliver at...

Versatile, very good photos if you know what you're doing

Some chromatic aberration at edges

(Using Sony A550)A great replacement of the standard kit-lens. Not too large a zoom, so image quality is better maintained throughout its reach. I'm currently using it paired with a Sigma 70-300, which is a great combination for starters.

Zoom range a lot more useful than 18-55 kit-lens and far better quality.- Great build quality- Silent and fast focusing

Maybe slightly soft on the extreme focal lengths.Apparently there is a large deviation between specimens, but I ordered it online, so I couldn't test it

Quality is not constant. Tried two different lenses and choose the better one.

Surplisingly excellent construction for a low-range zoom. Incredibile price/performance ratio.Distorsion is generally under good control, fairly better than 18-105 and 18-135 Nikkors

Diaphram is not accurate at 125mm. OS system remains ON whenever selector is on OFF.Nikkor lens 18-70mm is very sharper in the center of the frame expecially > 35mm, while Sigma offers a more homogenous performance with true borders too
