best lens from Sony

I have used this lens for about a month .I am still testing it.This is a very unique lens .The best image is at full open aperture . The image quality starts to drop at f8.The image still looks great even with a 2X converter lens at full open aperture...

Tradeoffs That Win

"As we all know, there are some areas where a mirror lens can be lacluster, but there are equal areas where they can be brilliant. Sony has updated the solid Minolta design with AF, to it would seem, everyone's amazement. I have had excellent results...

Compact for focal length and AF

Same as any mirror lens

"the lens can produce sharp images if you know how to use it .I owned this lens over a year and enjoyed it and made some pictures you couldn't believe it was taken by mirror lens .Fair to say it is sharp but not razor sharp however it only cost maybe...

Vignetting King

"This lens can deliver good images but not great images and has a problem with vignetting. Its build quality is good however the design is just ok. Its slow focusing mechanism and blue hue imaging production landed it at the bottom of my list. I have...

Sony SAL-500F80 - 500mm f/8 Reflex Super Telephoto

Being a Minolta geek I had a weak spot for this singular autofocus relector objective. Now I had the money and the proper time to go and do serious architecture photography, aswell as general scenery shots of Dutch towns and and still existing...

Sharpness ; Fast focus ; f8 but very bright (mind you much brighter than f8 on refractor!) ; short lenght only about 1/3rd of the focal length ; good grip - feels stirdy ; I like the leather lense hood - had to get used to it, but works fast on and off...

Stopping down is impossible ; in principle front filter is possible, but will degrade performance. Instead rear filters

500mm Sony Lens.

Arrived on the day promised. It is a very good piece of equipment, quick to focus with an excellent viewfinder image/brightness. Very pleased so far.

great all round performance

very lightweight, easy to handle and works well with Sony alpha 350 and KonicaMinolta Dynax 5D as long as you have 'steady shot' turned on. I have to use a mono-pod if the shutter speed is slower than about 1/50, but you can adjust the ISO speed very...

light, pin sharp focusing, well built, very little flare

noisy autofocus
