The Sony Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 is very sharp from edge-to-edge, but it shows some distortion and is on the expensive side.

Impressively sharp. Excellent depth of field control. Captures a ton of light. Great build quality.

Some barrel distortion. Big. Expensive.

Great lens!

 

Color, crispness, clarity are all great, even in low light settings. Lots of flexibility when playing with the focal plane. The autofocus is fast enough and pretty accurate. For the price, this lens is a bargain.

While some have said this is too expensive for a 50mm I'm fairly confident this comes from those that don't own one. Granted, I too was skeptical until I received it. I started with the usual quick pics around the home so it didn't get a real workout...

Highest quality lens I have ever owned!

 

Read all the reviews but in the end the Sony charts said it all. This lens is very well built, fast, high contrast (even at 1.4) and extremely sharp. You would have to enlarge your pics beyond 20x30 to even start finding weaknesses. One review stated...
