Tamron SP AF17

The initial impression of the Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] is that it's a solid lens. It feels "dense". Not heavy, but it gives the impression of solidity. The body seems to be made of a composite (plastic) material and the...

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 VC XR Di ll LD

A fast aperture standard zoom with Vibration Compensation for Nikon or Canon APS-C sensor digital SLR cameras.

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR DI 11 LD (IF)

Tamron was quick to take up the digital optimisation mantle; constantly updating its range as well as adding new lenses into the line-up....

quick, quiet focusing

zoom ring

Outstanding optical performance is spoiled slightly by some increase in fringing at the wide end, but generally this is a very capable and handy optic, with a decent price, especially for Nikon, Canon and Sony users. Overall, it's a very good option

REVIEW: Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 VC XR Di ll LD

Excellent resolution in the centre at most apertures and focal lengths; Vibration Compensation is very effective; Good value for money

Falloff in resolution at 50mm and f/2.8; Flare control

This lens has turned out to be a very interesting alternative to manufacturer's own offering in this focal range. It is capable of producing images with very good resolution, especially in the centre of the image and the Vibration Compensation feature...

A nice lens but.....

The lens is great for the price. It takes really good photos and sharp above f3.5 - The VC (Vibration Control's) motor is noisy when it engages and disengages. It is really annoying especially if you have tried Nikon's VR and Sigma's OS version of...

Fantastic every day lens!

Besides the motor being rather loud, I really can't complain about this lens. The price is great for the quality. I have this lens on my camera 70% of the time and I am definitely impressed with how well it works in low light.

For Digital SLR

This is a compact and lightweight lens, which makes it easy for me to lug it around. It has an extra refrective index. Its build is solid. Surprisingly, it takes very good macros as well.
