Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di VC USD Lens Review

Tamron seems to have created a worthy competitor in the 70-300mm zoom category, with excellent build quality, good optics, and several other handy features to help you capture better handheld photos; like the USM AF motor and VC stabilization. Read...

Very well built ; Comfortable controls ; Fast AF thanks to the USD motor ; Full-time MF allows for quick and easy AF override ; Capable VC system ; Compatible with both Full frame and Crop bodies ; Awesome Price

Heavy, a tripod mount would come in handy ; Zoom ring is not usable when lens hood is reversed ; Small amount of CA visible in photos when pixel peeping (viewing at 100%) ; Zoom ring had a bit too much resistance in my opinion ; AF/MF and VC controls...

Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP AF Review

Tamron has seemed to pay attention to what other manufacturers are offering and has created a new design for this lens. Instead of a lens which offered dual roles as a telephoto zoom lens and a capable macro lens, Tamron has chosen to emphasize the...

Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD review

Tamron's feature-rich new 70-300mm telephoto lens aims to go top of the class

Fast and near-silent USD autofocus, with full-time manual override ; Very effective 4-stop Vibration Correction ; Sharp at all but the longest zoom setting

Lacks sharpness at 300mm zoom setting with widest f/5.6 aperture ; 50 more expensive than Sigma's 70-300mm OS lens

Unlike the somewhat basic affair that is the Tamron AF 70-300mm Macro, the new Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD has all the latest bells and whistles, or at least their high-tech, optical equivalents.

Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Near-silent autofocus. Very good image stabilisation. Sharp images at shorter focal lengths (70-150mm).

Zoom movement is very firm. Unattractive bokeh.

The 70-300mm lens from Tamron offers a lot of zoom in a reasonably priced lens, delivering sharp images.

Tamron SP 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

What type of lens is currently the most common on the market? If you start to think about it the answer might surprise you. The biggest number of models you can find in the class of amateur telephoto lenses with focal lengths starting from 50-100 mm...

huge and solid barrel ; very good image resolution in the frame centre ; good or decent image quality on the edge of the frame ; low distortion ; slight coma ; well-corrected astigmatism ; imperceptible vignetting on APS-C/DX ; silent and efficient...

significant chromatic aberration in the whole focal lengths range ; image resolution at 300 mm could have been at least a bit better

A 'premium-class' update to Tamron's budget-priced 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di lens.Tamron's SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD lens was released in time for the company's 60th anniversary. The 'SP' label denotes 'professional' build quality, while other welcome...

The AF system on the review lens was very responsive and consistently accurate provided light levels were reasonably high. Not unexpectedly, the D3100's limitations in low light levels caused focusing speeds and accuracy to decline noticeably (although...
