Voigtlander Nokton 58 mm f/1.4 SL II

Lenses with f/1.4 apertures and the focal length in the 50-58 mm range are among the most popular and also the most classic fixed focal devices on the market. Small wonder every serious optics manufacturer tries to include these in its line-up and...

very solid barrel and high build quality ; excellent resolution in the frame centre ; very good image quality at the frame edge on slight stopping down ; well-corrected chromatic aberration ; slight distortion ; low astigmatism ; good work against...

unsatisfactory image quality at the edge of the frame near the maximum relative aperture ; high coma ; huge vignetting on full frame

Voigtlander Nokton 58 mm f/1.4 SL II

I like this old fashioned approach to fotography. Manual focusing is much fun

Smooth focusing, high built quality, nothing to complain about the imaging quality at my D7000. Low weight makes it to an nice travel lens. Stylish lens hood. Amazing image resolution in the frame center wide open, stopped down the frame follows

Original lenscap not useable with the mounted lens hood

Voigtlander Nokton 58 mm f/1.4 SL II

A fabulous lens if you don't mind manual focus. Don't be put off by some older reviews that talk about it being 2/3 of a stop out in metering. That was the original lens production run. Voigtlander revised the chip before its 2nd run. Mine is spot on....

Great build. Smooth focus. Good contrast. Ultra sharp when stopped down to f4 or f5.6. Relatively compact size but hefty

Needs to be stopped down to about f2.2 to get truly sharp and contrasty images but still useable wider open. Out of focus highlights behind the subject have a bit of outlining on it but not any worse than my Nikon 50 1.4G. Cheap looking lens cap
