Roku Streaming Stick (2016) review

The $50 Roku Streaming Stick is a no-brainer, must-own device for the serious streamer.

Lightning quick ; Wireless audio through smart phones ; All the apps ; Doesn’t favor any one streaming service ; Best search around

No 4K support ; No HDMI extension

Roku’s new Streaming Stick delivers an outstanding experience. It’s the snappy click-and-go device we think everyone expects, but somehow packed into a little stick no larger than a small pack of gum. And, as previously mentioned, Roku’s platform...

Roku Streaming Stick review: The best cheap way to make a dumb TV smart

The Roku Streaming Stick offers a solid app selection, good-enough performance, and some neat tricks for $50.

Smooth performance and a broad selection of apps ; Roku Feed is a clever way to follow movies and TV shows ; Remote control is very comfortable in your hand

No option for a voice remote ; Search results are sometimes inaccurate ; Some apps look outdated next to other streaming platforms

As noted in our streaming-stick comparison, the Roku Streaming Stick is a cut above Amazon’s Fire TV Stick ($40, or $50 with voice remote) and Google’s ($35). It feels faster than the former, it has a dedicated remote unlike the latter, and it has a...

Roku Streaming Stick 2016 review

If I could only recommend one device for streaming video today, it would be the new Roku Streaming Stick. At $50 it's one of the least expensive home video devices you can buy. It's also one of the best.

The $50 Roku Streaming Stick is one of the least expensive devices to stream video from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Sling TV and other online services. It's just as responsive as other devices -- meaning it's lightning-fast -- and an updated app lets...

No Ethernet port means it only works via Wi-Fi, not a wired connection. Some app interfaces are less polished than on rival devices. Private listening feature loses lip-sync with some Bluetooth headphones.

The new Roku Streaming Stick is the best value in streaming-video hardware, period.

Roku Streaming Stick

Roku has rolled out a new Streaming Stick, its inexpensive, back-of-the-television answer to media streamer boxes like the Apple TV. It's slimmer, faster, and has more features than the original, all for the same $49.99 price tag. It still doesn't have...

Inexpensive. Functional. Responsive. Lots of services available. Private listening with Roku app and mobile device

No 4K support. Doesn't have headphone jack on remote

Roku's latest Streaming Stick is a tiny, fast, full-featured media streamer that adds some interesting new features thanks to a companion mobile app.

Roku Streaming Stick review: TV everywhere

It happens every time I travel. I come back to my hotel room, flop into a freshly made bed, pick up the (probably sticky) black remote, and turn on the TV. I'm given the option to mortgage my home...

Unrivaled content selection ; Nice, simple interface ; Handy universal search

Somewhere between slow and very slow ; Setup could be faster ; Requires external power

The best Roku is the one you have with you

Review: Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI Version)

This stick is no stooge. It has the brains of a puck, and most of the brawn. But because it's a stick, it's cheaper and...

All the options of the Roku streaming ecosystem, but at half the cost of a Roku 3. Streams up to 1080p. Dual-band wireless is stable and steady. Compact design means the Roku Streaming Stick stays hidden out of sight at the back of your TV. All the USB...

No private listening on the remote. If you’re getting lousy reception, you can’t move it around like you can a regular Roku box — it’s stuck in the back of your TV. Odd shape may prove a tight fit depending on the alignment of your TV’s HDMI ports. The...

Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI Version) review

It's tough to beat $35. That's the challenge facing Roku's new Streaming Stick ($50), as it goes head-to-head with Google's Chromecast , jockeying to be the best low-cost media streaming stick for the living room. And Roku has a good case, as the $15...

The Roku Streaming Stick packs the entire Roku experience into a compact device that lives behind your TV and costs just $50. Over 1,200 apps are available, including Netflix, Amazon Instant, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, Pandora, MLB.TV, Amazon Cloud Player,...

Some apps, like YouTube, take a long time to boot up. The included remote doesn't have the neat headphone jack feature that's available on the Roku 3 and Roku 2. And if you used your TV's USB port for power, the device will likely need to boot-up when...

Roku's Streaming Stick offers tons of apps, a real remote, and a compact design for just $50, making it the best streaming stick and an outstanding value.

Roku Streaming Stick, HDMI Version Preview and Chromecast Comparison

Preview: The Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI version) is their answer to the Chromecast. It has access to just about every streaming service on the planet rather than Google's limited streaming offerings

The Roku Streaming Stick HDMI version is the solution for those that want to turn their TV into a "smart TV" or add streaming to their system without adding another box. The real question users need to ask themselves is what services will they use. If...

Roku Streaming Stick (2016) review: Smaller with so much more to love

I'm a big fan of Roku, and I think its decision to treat every streaming app equally gives it a huge advantage over rival streaming gadgets from Apple, Google and Amazon that tend to prioritize their own content. I've actually used the same...

If you’re in the market for a new streaming gadget this is one of the best available, especially for just $50. Even if you think you’re fine with your current setup, you may reconsider after seeing just how quickly the new Streaming Stick can navigate...
