Sony SMP-N100

Affordable streaming box that includes Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon VOD, Pandora, and Slacker apps; built-in Wi-Fi; plays your own media files via DLNA network streaming or USB; supports TV with analog video connections; controllable by iPhone app.

User interface needs work; initial setup doesn't handle Wi-Fi; lacks advanced Netflix features like search and browsing categories; slightly more expensive than competitors.

Sony's SMP-N100 streaming-video box isn't the easiest to use, but it offers an unparalleled feature set at its price.

"Quickly became obsolete when I got a "smart" TV."

I experienced a lot of buffering delays with Netflix using the SMP-N100 over my wireless network. However if I use the TV's wireless adapter and Netflix connection buffering was much less.

Has Component Video output as well as HDMI which is useful if your TV has limited HDMI inputs.

Relatively poor wireless connectivity.

"Much Better Than I Expected!"

Out the box it feels solid, well built and has a host of connections on the back. This is connected via HDMI to my TV for best quality and least wires. Its also connected via ethernet to get the top speeds from my internet.

+ Solid, well built and has a host of connections on the back

- Lack of ITVs on demand service and 4oD

"A big disappointment to say the least!"

I purchased this N100 in the hopes to receive a (space saver) do it all device as far as wi-fi players goes. I am very disappointed with the component/technical quality because I found that the player does not in fact receive signal well and its...

So many great features of programs if you can utilize them all. it is light & small and fits anywhere with all the audio jacking hook-up you'll need for quality sound.

Won't retrieve proper feed or transition so, what good is it having so many great features if you can't take advantage of them properly? Some users are saying it's because of a third party feed streaming. Well, I just know that it's junk!

"GREAT MEDIA PLAYER FOR THE MONEY"

I REALLY ENJOY THIS MEDIA PLAYER. NOT JUST BECAUSE I HAVE ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER FILES BUT ALSO THE AMOUNT OF CHANNELS THIS BOX COMES WITH. IN ADDITION, ITS VERY SIMPLE TO SET UP IN YOUR HDTV.

YOU GET PLENTY OF STREAM MEDIA MATERIAL AND HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR PC FILES.

THERE IS NO FULL HD TREAMING USING A WIFI CONNECTION.

"For a Decent wireless Streaming device, look elsewhere"

Bought the SMP-N100 on deal about 3 months back, and it stopped working in 2 months over the wireless, The support is difficult to reach, about 20-40 mins each time you call, and (the support team) believes in putting the blame on you. At first they...

Works ok whilw it does

Does not work over WiFi, Horrible support, bad picture quality(At times), buffers for ever.

Great Basic Network Player

If you are looking for a basic network media player, playing back digital copy movies, music, photos, etc. then you will be very happy with this player. If you have movies ripped to a computer hard drive or want to view/listen to content stored in...

PS3 interface is nice looking and pretty easy to navigate even for a non-PS3 owner. Content that this unit can "see" and play is done very nicely. I tested this unit (I'm a Home Theater integrator) and it performed very well

DLNA limitations (can't access many of your computer files) and limited codecs (can't play VOB and IFO movie file types)
