Apple TV (latest generation) review

Apple lovers will swoon over the Apple TV.

Easy and fun to use ; Fantastic remote control ; Zippy operation ; tvOS versions of apps are great ; AirPlay mirroring

Does not support 4K ; No optical digital audio port ; Lacks some key apps ; No expandable storage

If you’re a fan of all things Apple, the Apple TV is sure to be a delight in your entertainment system. It’s quick, fun and easy to use, and it brings the entire Apple content universe to your big screen.

Apple TV review (2015): A huge leap forward, unless you want 4K

The new Apple TV offers the most refined streaming interface yet, with a remote that's a step ahead of the competition. Its voice search actually works well, and even at this early stage, there are plenty of worthwhile apps and games. If you need 4K...

New interface is refined and attractive ; Siri remote is a much-needed upgrade ; Voice search works well ; Solid app and gaming support

No 4K support ; On-screen keyboard is still clumsy

So was the wait for a new Apple TV worth it? After spending a week devouring content and making it the centerpiece of my living room, I'd say yes. Its refined interface and remote, along with the best voice search implementation I've seen, puts it a...

Apple TV review, updated: A better listener than ever, especially for Apple fans

The latest Apple TV box is about half a year old, and since it first appeared the company has been hard at work adding apps, fixing pain points and making Siri a better listener. Check out all the updates here.

Apple TV delivers the most polished video experience today, with speedy reactions and a familiar yet attractive interface. It has the best remote on the market. Siri voice search is excellent, and useful voice commands add unique capabilities. The...

Apple TV costs more than similar devices like the Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast for basically the same core functions. There's no dedicated app for Amazon or any other a la carte video service beyond iTunes.

Apple TV's awesome remote and voice control make it one of the best entertainment devices, especially for anyone who already owns plenty of Apple gadgets.

Apple TV (2015) review

The Apple TV 4K is now available, and it costs only $30 or AU$40 more than the standard Apple TV, reviewed here. For just about everyone, my advice is to skip this box and pay the extra $30 for the Apple TV 4K.

Apple TV

Apple brings a new OS, app support, and Siri voice control to its popular media streamer, but with a price that's on the high side and a lack of 4k support, the competition prevails.

Simple, attractive tvOS interface. New app store greatly expands functionality. Excellent iOS device integration. Handy new remote with microphone for voice control.

Pricey. No 4K support. Disappointing non-Apple music options.

4K and Conclusions Apple omits a big feature here that has become for other flagship media streamers: 4K video support. iTunes doesn't currently offer 4K content, but Netflix and YouTube do, and the lack of support on a device that costs more than the...

Apple TV review: is this the future?

"The future of TV is here." It is not the world's most understated tagline for a new product, especially one from Apple. If you want to set sky-high expectations around a new TV product after years of rumors, well, that's how you do it.

Siri works well for TV and movies ; Really fast ; Games are a fun addition

Siri is extremely limited ; Have to log in to every app individually ; No 4K support

Apple TV 2015 ( 64GB)

I've always owned Samsung phones and Windows computers, and tell family members to get Amazon Fire tablets . I bought a Mac in college but ended up paying a fortune for it as part of a student loan program and never bought one again. While my work...

Apple TV Review (2015): Living with big-screen Siri

Shouting back at the TV used to be frowned upon; now, with the fourth-generation Apple TV , Apple is positively encouraging it. The Cupertino firm's take on the future of the living room has released Siri from its iPhone and iPad prison, while a new...

My old TV had just two HDMI ports, so I had to be selective about what I left plugged in. Even now, with more inputs to fill, I still limit myself to two set-top boxes. The new Apple TV has replaced its predecessor in one of those ports, but it hasn’t...

Apple TV review: A diamond in the rough - very rough

The fourth generation Apple TV feels like the start of something big. But right now there's so much terribly wrong with Apple's latest set-top box, it's hard to know where to begin.

Access to the iTunes library ; Enormous potential ; Voice search (when it works) ; Puts AirPlay on TV

Terrible remote ; Limited app selection ; Problematic Bluetooth ; Painful service setup

Apple TV Review (4th Gen)

In the end, the new Apple TV is most definitely a huge upgrade over the previous Apple TV model by far, and if money isn’t a huge concern for you, you should absolutely upgrade to it.
