Dell S2740L Review

LCD monitors have taken over the market and CRTs have been replaced by them over the years. They were once considered to be expensive replacements, but as LCD technology has become mainstream, we've seen prices collapse. Full HD 22-inch monitors are...

The Dell S2740L is a very good monitor for a number of reasons, but we’d honestly liked to have a slightly higher resolution on a monitor this size—something like 2560 x 1440. Still, a 27-inch HD display offers a very good experience for gaming, movies...

Dell S2740L

With its edge-to-edge glass, slim profile, and crystal-clear 27-inch screen, the Dell S2740L offers an enticing blend of style and performance. This sleek-looking monitor uses IPS (in plane switching) panel technology to deliver excellent color depth...

Sleek design. Great color and viewing angle performance. Energy efficient

Reflective screen. USB ports are hard to reach. One-year warranty

The Dell S2740L is a beautifully crafted 27-inch IPS monitor with a reasonable price tag. It's a solid performer that doesn't use much power, but its glossy screen can be mirror-like.

Dell S2740L

A stylish 27-inch monitor with a Full HD IPS panel for under £300.

Stylish, premium-looking, well-built design ; Reasonable image quality ; Decent connectivity ; Superb OSD and controls

Glass front = reflections ; Low resolution = visible pixels ; Limited adjustability ; Cheaper alternatives also offer 3D ; Connectivity difficult to reach

For example, while there’s a whole raft of presets, only Game mode lets you adjust Hue and/or Saturation. There are no colour temperature settings. There is no sRGB or Image/Photo preset, individual RGB colour control is limited to a single preset, and...

Dell S2740L review

It's very easy to get distracted by the Dell S2740L. Not because of its eye-catching frameless 27in IPS display, its 1,920x1,080 resolution or its low-end price point. Instead, all we could think about was just how shiny and glossy it is.

Excellent brightness and contrast levels, but its glossy display will drive you mad

Dell S2740L review

Dig deeper, though, and the reason for its attractive price becomes apparent. Yes, the Dell S2740L does use high-quality components, but the resolution is considerably lower than that of Dell's own U2713HM or of Apple's LED Cinema Display review.

The Dell S2740L has some good things going for it. Its IPS panel gives it a wide viewing angle, its glossy screen helps to give photographic images depth, and its LED backlighting conserves some energy and space. The fairly low resolution might be...

Best monitor I've owned

When you get this monitor, I highly recommend you lower the brightness. Factory default was something like 80%, I lowered it to 60% which is still plenty bright for my environment. I'm usually not a fan of capacitive-touch buttons like this monitor...

Glossy screen, edge-to-edge glass. This is going to be the reason you love this monitor or hate it. If you have a light source from behind you, you'll probably hate this monitor because of all the reflections. But if you can control the lighting from...

My biggest complaint is the included cables - Dell gives you a VGA cable but no DVI or HDMI? Are you kidding me Dell!?! This is 2014, VGA is all but dead. Also, anyone spending money on a higher-end monitor like this isn't going to be using VGA. Spend...

Sharp and precise i love it

have to make sure there is no light behind me wile playing dark games like nether of thief the glare is pretty bad because of the glass screen but it doesn't bother me its worth it

Great but not without a glaring flaw

Yes, the screen is very glossy. Almost mirror-like when off. This is not a con for me because I only use it in a pitch black environment. You should be aware of how many light sources are in the room you plan to use it in before purchasing. Also, I've...

Beautiful, vivid, smooth colors thanks to the IPS panel and glass front. Very low (less than one frame) input lag. Does not use PWM for backlight dimming, which ordinarily can cause flickering noticeable when quickly moving your eyes or moving your...

The far right quarter of the screen is brighter than the rest on mine and causes colors to look lighter and slightly blue-tinted. Sadly, this seems to be a common problem with this monitor. While not ridiculously obvious, it can be noticeable on large...

Nice colors

price has gone up....this monitor is well worth $300, but not much more, ( it is1920 x 1080, its not 2560 x 1440)

Nice colors, pretty accurate out of box after reducing brightness to 44 ; glass screen makes images "pop", sharp too ; very low input, good for pc gaming

glass screen means sharper images at the expense of reflections. You MUST control + limit your light source (shut curtains or blinds) in front of this monitor (to reduce reflections)

Dell S2740L

I love this monitor so much, I'm picking up a second one later today!

This screen is HUGE. I upgraded from a 21.5" monitor to this and the difference was night and day. The screen is very clear, and once you set up the settings properly (based on the review at TFTcentral's website), the colors are very accurate ; The...

The glossy screen can sometimes be annoying if there is light in the background, but my computer is in an area where that isn't much of an issue, and if there is a reflection it doesn't become unusable by any means
