Pebble Steel review

Samsung's Galaxy Gear may have outsold the humble Pebble smartwatch, but the little Kickstarter-grown project has been a cult favorite since its rollout last year. And now the little smartwatch that could is back, and all grown up. The Pebble Steel is...

Classy stainless steel design ; Waterproof ; Fast, crisp LCD display ; 4-7 day battery life ; More apps than other smartwatches

Same specs as the first Pebble ; Requires a lot of phone tethering ; Notifications cannot be controlled ; No battery life indicator ; Screen lacks color and touch ; App selection limited

The Pebble Steel is a beautiful waterproof Pebble. It isn’t very intelligent yet, but it’s the best smartwatch out right now.

The Pebble Steel boasts an easy-to-use app store and premium design, making it the best smartwatch yet.

Attractive premium design ; Waterproof; Intuitive appstore; Easy to view all recent notifications; Impressive new apps

A bit pricey; Annoying 8-app limit

No, you won't find a camera, color display or voice capabilities on the Pebble Steel. But that doesn't mean this $249 smartwatch lacks ambition. The folks at Pebble have created a device that keeps the simple charm of the previous model and wraps it in...

Pebble Steel review: business class

It's hard to imagine, but the best smartwatch you can buy isn't from Apple, or Google, or Microsoft, or Samsung.

Looks like a regular watch ; Notifications and apps work well ; Simple to use

Apps could be better integrated ; All-or-nothing notifications on iOS

“A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion.”

Pebble Steel Review

By most metrics Pebble has been a bonafide indie success, the poster child for successful crowdfunding campaigns and the darling of the quickly emerging smartwatch market. While Pebble has been generally well received it is not without criticism, the...

Premium materials make it appropriate for dressier occasions ; Gorilla Glass and 5ATM waterproofing make it tough enough for everyday use

Price may be too high ; Non-standard watch band

We’ve been using Pebble as our daily watch since we first reviewed it nearly a year ago, but there were times when we’d have to slip our Seiko back on because Pebble just didn’t fit the occasion. While the Seiko is a very nice watch, we immediately...

Pebble Steel review

Pebble has followed up the launch of its original smartwatch with the Pebble Steel, a smartwatch for grown-ups which, as the name suggests, is crafted from stainless steel rather than plastic.

Premium design, metal and leather straps included, ease of use, expanding apps library, phone sync recognises multiple Pebble devices

Slow menu, apps don't offer much unless you can find one that really makes a difference for you, iOS notifications are all or nothing

Hands on: Pebble Steel review

The Pebble puts on its big boy pants

Slick design ; Loads of apps

Slightly lightweight still ; UI can be hard to navigate at times

Less is more with Pebble's second smartwatch - wish list wristwear doesn't come better than this

Comfortable, looks like a real watch Five day battery life iOS and Android compatible App store has bags of potential

More expensive than original Pebble Screen could be a bit bigger

Future features meet a familiar watch form - the Pebble Steel is the best smartwatch you can buy

Pebble Steel

Equal parts fashionable and functional, the Pebble Steel leaps to the top of the smartwatch heap, but does so by improving existing tech rather than adding something totally new.

Great looks and construction ; A growing list of apps can ; At long last, an app store

US$100 more than original Pebble, but same base hardware ; Only holds eight apps at a time ; No microphone, speaker, touch screen, or color display

Pebble Steel - Review

The original Pebble was one of the first SmartWatches that actually got my attention, up until then SmartWatches were just trying far too hard. With devices like the Sony Liveview being flawed by horrific software and driver issues.
