Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends (PlayStation 2)

Koei's Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends is a standalone expansion for a game with very close ties to the company's Dynasty Warriors series. In fact, the two franchises are almost identical except for a change in scenery, with Koei abandoning ancient...

Samurai Warriors 2: Empires (PlayStation 2)

Stop us if you've heard this one before. Once again those pesky ancient samurais are up to their usual warring shenanigans, and it's up to you to relive their past battles through a lot of completely boring combat and annoyingly acted cutscenes. Yep,...

Samurai Warriors 2 (PlayStation 2)

Koei's Dynasty Warriors franchise, the long-running and once-revered saga of ancient Chinese warriors beating each other with swords, has had a few moments of evolution throughout its lifespan. With the Empires spin-offs, Koei finally managed to give...

Samurai Warriors 2 - ps2

You can think of Samurai Warriors 2 almost as a playable history lesson based on the Sengoku period from Japan. Learning history, although it may not exactly be perfectly accurate, hasn't been this fun for a long time

Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends

Why is everything “Extreme” these days, and why is it spelled wrong? Either way, Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends is a decent title for the gamer looking to find a bridge between the action and strategy genres.

Graphics ; More of what made the original Samurai Warriors fun ; New modes

May put some players off that haven't played the original ; As a stand-alone title it's a little skimpy ; Audio gets annoying after a while

Best when combined with the original Samurai Warriors.

Samurai Warriors

Let's get the most obvious stuff out of the way. Comparisons to KOEI's flagship Dynasty Warriors franchise are inevitable for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the title. While the action shifts from feudal China to a feudal Japan, the...

Solid gameplay ; New addition of RPG elements ; Co-op play

Mixed bag visually ; No online ; Some may find the gameplay repetitive

Samurai Warriors takes place in Japan's warring past - did you honestly think ninjas wouldn't appear? This game rocks in 37 different flavors.

Samurai Warriors 2

Fans of the original game and the superior Dynasty Warriors series may find something to enjoy here, but everyone else will be hard pressed to do the same.

Sugoroku is a nice distraction

Dated presentation in all areas ; Boring ; Sorely lacking in variety

Ultimately Samurai Warriors 2 is one of the dullest and most repetitive games I've played in recent memory. It feels more like a chore then a game, and the lack of attention to many aspects of its design pale in comparison to its greatest omission......
