A great 23in monitor, with excellent viewing angles and colour accuracy, but its high price is a lot to get over.

NEC EA231WMi is one of the more interesting monitors today due to the IPS panel technology that Dell is also using in their 2209WA and U2410 monitors. Therefore my expectations were high but EA231WMi did not let me down.

While the native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080, the NEC is also able to upscale to 1,920 x 1,200. However, not surprisingly, this results in a loss of image quality, particularly sharpness, as the screen overscans the image (essentially, it zooms in)....

This is just a incredible monitor for the money. I also purchased the SpectraView calibration software and X-Rite sensor. Calibration is a must. The end result is just awesome. I went thru 4 high end monitors before this one. They were all horrendously...

The speakers, as is to be expected, are bad

I have had this monitor for about 10 months now, and can't speak too highly of it. I deliberately opted for IPS over the standard-issue fare. Great colors, crisp display, good viewing angles. Rotation is a huge help for the occasional work-related task...

No HDMI (has displayport). Speakers are very mediocre, very "tin-ny", but I never intended to use the speakers anyway
