NEC MultiSync P221W review: NEC MultiSync P221W

The $490 22-inch NEC MultiSync P221W is a great performing alternative to super high-end and superexpensive professional monitors such as the $1,450 Eizo ColorEdge CG222W . The NEC has wide viewing angles, a robust and easy-to-use onscreen display,...

The NEC MultiSync P221W has wide viewing angles, a robust and easy-to-navigate onscreen display, accurate colors, and several useful ergonomic options.

The NEC MultiSync P221W has a fairly high asking price, and no extra video or USB connections

The NEC MultiSync P221W has some of the most accurate colors we've seen, but it is light on features.

NEC MultiSync P221W

The P221W offers accurate representation of colors, blacks, and whites, and a wide viewing angle for professional artists and photographers. Its bulkiness and high cost will not make it attractive to the average user, however.

Accurately displays colors, blacks, and whites; versatile adjustability; wide viewing angle

Bulky design; expensive for the average user; technology inherently slows pixel-response time and causes input lag

For artists and photographers who need a screen that is bright and runs the color gamut, and don't mind paying for it, the P221W should be firmly in the running. Its high cost and bulky design make it impractical for everyday users, though, who could...

22-Inch PVA: NEC MultiSync P221W Monitor Review

This solution from NEC is a monitor built on S-PVA matrix that stands out due to excellent viewing angles and high-quality color reproduction at a decent price point. Read more about it in our detailed review.

Neat color reproduction setup, Large viewing angles, Good uniformity of backlight brightness, Low response time, Rich settings, Option of automatic brightness adjustment depending on the ambient lighting, Height adjustment and portrait mode

Problem with dark halftones when the screen is looked at directly, No preset image modes, Massive case, Rather high price

NEC MultiSync P221w review

But at around £450, the NEC MultiSync P221w is extremely pricey, particularly when you consider that other 22in displays can be found for considerably less.

Still, unless, perhaps, you're a graphics specialist, the £450 seems a high price to pay for the NEC MultiSync P221w, even for rock-solid image quality and high-level controls. These days you can find a decent 22in widescreen for half that price and...

Awesome Image Editing Solution

If you're tired of your prints not matching what you see on your display then stop here. This is not a gaming monitor, this is a monitor for people serious about imaging who require accurate color calibration. The SpectraView II solution included with...

Wide gamut - 96% Adobe RGB support ; Reasonable cost ; 10-bit Look Up Tables (LUTs) and integrated colorimiter means calibration is done in the monitor not the display adapter and has 4 times the range of values to adjust ; Competent calibration...

There are very few negatives about this monitor ; Other professional NEC monitors have 12 or 14-bit LUTs and IPS (vs. S-PVA) technology but at a substantial price increase ; There may be less expensive wide gamut monitors available from other vendors...
