The Samsung SyncMaster S27B970 monitor nails performance and aesthetics, but asks a high price

The ; has stellar performance, a sleek, sexy design, and useful OSD options.

At $1,200, the monitor will set you back a few car payments. Also, attempting to remove the DisplayPort cable can have disastrous consequences.

The Samsung SyncMaster S27B970's excellent performance and beautiful aesthetic outweigh some thoughtless design choices.

Samsung Series 9 (S27B970) LED monitor

This glossy 27-inch LED has the best colour we've seen of any monitor

Clean, attractive design ; Connectors on base work well ; Excellent colour from PLS panel

No swivel or rotation ; Super-glossy finish ; High price

Samsung’s best 2013 monitor, the Series 9, mimics the company’s LED TVs with great built-in speakers, good connectivity, and an excellent screen for home or business work.

Samsung S27B970 LED monitor

You have to hand it to Samsung, the company knows how to design a sexy looking monitor. The snappily-titled S27B970 is huge 27” PLS monitor with a brushed metal base, curved stand containing touch-sensitive menu controls, dark glass front and metal rim...

Superb styling; brushed metal stand; tidy use of wires; good refresh rate; high resolution; lots of interfaces; good colour consistency; built-in 7w speakers; PLS screen

Some light leak; expensive; glossy screen hinders viewing on bright days; average brightness and contrast

Looks fantastic but it’s also quite expensive. The stand doesn’t rotate into a portrait orientation and the display isn’t quite as good a quality as the price tag demands. There can be some issues with the glass front causing reflections, but the...

Samsung S27B970D

Samsung have really come into their own when it comes to the styling of their monitors. Their '7′ and '9′ series 3D and ‘Smart' models show a unique and adventurous styling that has been turning a lot of heads. Prior to that they launched models such...

Good contrast and gradation performance with excellent clarity from the resolution and glossy screen. Superb luminance uniformity on our unit; Excellent colour performance with good preset flexibility. Spot-on gamma and white point, additional...

PLS glow, reflections from the glossy surface – mild antiglare layer does reduce this slightly but introduces a ‘fine mist’ texture if you look carefully; Significant contrast drop when switching to ‘sRGB’ mode, native gamut in all other modes extends...

Samsung’s PLS technology is relatively new to the market and not as widely adopted or indeed as familiar to consumers as LG’s IPS technology. To all intents and purposes, however, the underlying technology and strengths and weaknesses of the image are...

Samsung Series 9 Monitor review

It can be easy to overlook a monitor when going through an upgrade cycle – after all, you won't get more frames per second by simply changing out your display. However, considering it's what you'll spend most of your time looking at, it makes sense to...

Samsung has managed to undercut Apple, its main rival in luxury high-end displays, by around $100 with the Series 9, although the cost cutting measures are more visible in some areas than others. The plastic construction isn’t as sturdy as the...

Consumer review (cnet.com)

A POTENTIALLY fantastic monitor.

I have every belief that this monitor will be tremendous. With this monitor you need two important things: a top of the line graphics card and preferably DisplayPort 1.2 cables. All the computer sites that have tested this monitor of course use the...

Could be the best monitor available.

1) the picture quality with DVI can go to 2560 x 1440 but is ONLY AS GOOD as your video card. 2) This computer uses the DP or HDMI cable to transmit the audio signal to the monitor speakers. There is no speaker or headphone plug on the monitor.
