Video Perspective: Samsung U28D590D 28-in 4K Single Stream 60 Hz Monitor Review

It has been just over a year ago when we first got our hands on a 4K display. At the time, we were using a 50-in Seiki 3840x2160 HDTV that ran at a 30 Hz refresh rate and was disappointing in terms of its gaming experience, but impressive in image...

though that number has fallen to $2400 recently.

Is Samsung's £450 4K monitor the one to buy?

Solid image quality ; 60Hz over DisplayPort ; Stylish design

Poor input lag ; No USB ports ; Lack of stand versatility

Our only qualm came when we’d finally got the U28D590D out of its box and put it together. The tiny stand looks stylish, but it’s not sturdy – a tap on the top of the screen caused some serious wobble.

Samsung UD590: An all-round 4K monitor that doesn't break the bank

The Samsung UD590 is a 28-inch 4K monitor capable of 1 billion colors, and comes with two HDMI and one DisplayPort inputs. Best of all, it costs just S$899. We tell you if it's any good.

Good brightness, grayscale and color performance; Affordable for a 4K monitor; Useful PiP & PbP modes; Very decent input lag and response time

Stand lacks height, swivel, and rotation adjustments; No VESA mount support; Average black levels performance; Still restrictive viewing angles

Req's DP, not HDMI

DO NOT use the supplied HDMI cable or any HDMI. this monitor requires a Display port capable Video card to achieve the full 60htz capability. The included Display port cable is very short, not not painfully so. I am running this as a primary monitor...

Size ; quality ; display

Stand is shaky ; No mounting other than included stand ; Included DP cable is to short

I got ant in my monitor, poor guy

Its big

Shaky, No VESA mount, I assume life is 1 year max, cause its staring to show problems in one month, well right after one month return policy expires

Some draw backs...

tl;dr Pro's: - Beautiful monitor - 3840×2160 Con's: - No way to mount on wall or stand. - Setup was not well explained. - Doesn't come with the adapters you will most likely need. - Limited inputs. My personal recommendation... Get a new video card...

3840×2160 looks amazing, and for a TN panel the colors and contrast look fantastic as well. Worth the $600

High PPI, I have a MacBook pro that runs 2880x1800 and it looks amazing, smooth fonts, soft shadows, the picture just makes you want to stare at it all day, I figured the same would be for a 28" 4k UHD monitor. 3840x2160 I figured would be great...

Big, lots of pixels. No dead or stuck pixels. Not heavy for what it is

I was not expecting this to be the greatest thing ever. I am fine with TN, no speakers and the stand is fine for what I need. I am even ok with that my mid 2012 Retina MBP doesn't out 60hz ; The problem big con for me is that upon 6 of probably 30...

HUUUUUUUGE. The jump in resolution from a 1920 to this was staggering. 1 Billion colors really come to life in 4k, and I was very pleased with my decision to go with this model due to the vibrancy. refresh rate is solid and it's more than usable for...

Minimal ability to tilt, though this seldom affects me

Absolutely Amazing!

As far as what people are saying about the stand wobbling. I have not had this problem. I mean you literally have to grab it by its side and push down and watch it bounce. It seems very sturdy to me. Definitely use Display port for the 60hz. I have...

This is by far the best monitor I have owned In quite some time. My previous monitor was a first gen Asus 120hz 3D Monitor. With the resolution I'm working with now I can finally get more Pixel accuracy with my DSLR. As far as Gaming is concerned the...

Samsung 4k Monitor

As of today 4k is not well supported. Know that some of your favorite programs will experience very strange problems if they weren't made with 4k in mind. Small text, scaling errors, and overall buggy performance is very possible, even in popular...

Brilliant bright, high resolution screen. I've encountered no manufacturing defects and the monitor works as advertised ; I like the one-button menu and having the switch on the back of the monitor. It is actually less confusing than other monitor...

The stand could definitely use improvement. While I think some people may have exaggerated the amount of wobble this monitor can experience, it is indeed more than your average stand. It's not a problem unless you violently shake your desk or move the...
