I love the simplicity of a good roadster. There is a purity to the direct connection between driver and vehicle, with no extra seats, no gadgetry, and so few distractions from the singular purpose of driving quickly. The lack of a roof means that...

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is' turbocharged engine surges with power and sounds fantastic. The seven-speed DCT shifts with inhuman quickness. BMW's full array of iDrive technology is available.

With the top down, there's remarkably little trunk space. The base price is higher than a Porsche Boxster S'.

The 2013 BMW Z4 sDrive35is is an expensive toy with great power and tech, but at this price we'd recommend that driving enthusiasts choose the Porsche Boxster.

Looking out of the window one grey and wet October morning, it's hard to understand why Brits buy more convertibles than any other country in Europe.

A roadster when you want but a coupe when you don’t, great cabin to be in - top down or top up, feels special, base level engine brings the entry price down and is a sweet drive

Options get expensive, position of iDrive controller not perfect, suspension can get caught out in certain situations, lower power engine doesn’t mean lower CO2 or better economy
