Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 (2008)

The Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 ($49.95) is Microsoft's newest addition to its line of laser-guided mice. This model has an ergonomic design, customizable buttons, Microsoft's Magnifier and Flip 3D features, and a snap-in USB transceiver, a nod to you...

Useful and intuitive magnifier; increased mobility--the transceiver attaches to the undercarriage; innovative ergonomic additions include double finger grooves and textured scroll wheel.

Contoured shape requires wrist angle adaptation, smooth vertical rocker lacks precision; side buttons lack a tactile click.

The Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 is travel-friendly and more comfortable than your standard point-and-click, once you get used to a few design quirks. If you're looking for an accurate wireless mouse and don't mind replacing batteries once a...

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000

The concept behind the Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 is a simple one: integrate the functions of a presentation controller into a standard-issue wireless mouse. Clearly aimed at the traveling professional, the handy all-in-one device seems to...

Connects instantly; built-in presentation buttons and laser pointer; Bluetooth connectivity

Button placement could be better

We cannot recommend a laptop-ready mouse more highly than the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter 8000.

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000

Microsoft has introduced a “kitchen sink” keyboard and mouse combo that is one of the most feature-rich and high tech keyboard-mouse combos we've ever tested. It's fully wireless, rechargeable, has backlighting, remote control tools for lap use and...

Great keyboard; backlighting is nifty; useful control buttons

Super expensive; no number pad; USB ports are hard to find

We like this keyboard and mouse a lot, but we simply cannot stomach this model

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 (silver)

When Microsoft's $300 Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 comes out this September, it will be more expensive than any other prepackaged mouse-and-keyboard combination currently available. And as feature-packed as this wireless rechargeable desktop set...

Rechargeable; easy-to-use and comprehensive media control keys; smart backlighting design.

Expensive; clunky recharging station.

Microsoft's Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 brings a lot of features and functions. Its wireless, backlit keyboard is also rechargeable, but we wish it were better designed and about $50 less expensive. We suspect many people will be impressed at...

Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000

The main draw to the 6000 is its unconventional yet comfortable shape, as well as a few interesting features. Like many specialized mice these days, the 6000 is pricey; just be sure that you'll appreciate its features to justify the cost.

Shape and hand orientation more ergonomic; many software features; side-to-side scrolling; firm, grippable thumb area

Pricey; requires AA batteries; side buttons a bit far from thumb; no clicky scroll wheel; slight wrist bend; lefties need not apply

Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000

In 2004, 3M came out with a product called the Ergonomic Mouse . More like an upright handgrip with a tracking pad attached to the bottom, the 3M mouse was notable because it kept the palm of your hand perpendicular to your work space. That design...

Easy to adjust to the unique design; felt less stressful on your reviewer's well-worn mousing wrist (unclinically speaking); satisfying, responsive scroll wheel.

Inconvenient thumb-button placement; overly large RF receiver.

Aimed at relieving or preventing the onset of repetitive stress injuries, Microsoft's new mouse seems to have the right idea in its redesign of the standard mouse grip. If Microsoft's hardware design team had paid as much attention to some of its other...

Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000

When Microsoft decides to become a player in your market, you best watch your 6 o'clock, and you can bet that's what other input device manufacturers have been doing since the introduction of the Wireless Laser Desktop 6000. You'd expect tight Windows...

Aesthetics; great drivers; responsive

Mushy keyboard; cheap feeling plastics; no charging dock; button lettering rubs off

The mouse uses the most precise technology, but feel flimsy and lacks low friction feet.

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000

At just 3.5 ounces and the size of a large bar of hotel soap, the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 is one of the smaller notebook mice around. Like the Logitech V450 Laser cordless mouse for notebooks, the Microsoft rodent is symmetrical...

Small and light; excellent software package; laser tracking for precision on many surfaces.

Too small for everyday use; huge receiver sticks out of the base when stowed; very short range.

The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 has great software features, but it's too small and uncomfortable for everyday use.

Microsoft B7T-00001 Normal 21 Function Keyboard

Microsoft put some interesting touches on its fashionable Wireless Laser Desktop 6000. The mouse's high-definition laser might be the immediate attention grabber, but the mouse's ability to quickly magnify a word, an image, or an entire Web page with...

Good-looking; curved keyboard for faster, more comfortable typing; several programmable quick-launch keys; Windows and Mac OS compatible; handy Zoom Slider and magnification features.

Separate interfaces for configuring mouse and keyboard; mushy mouse buttons; overall cheap feel.

It's wireless and stylish, and it offers several useful features, but the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 has a cheap, lightweight feel that hurts this otherwise well-designed keyboard-and-mouse set.

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000

Microsoft's Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 8000 ($299.95 list) is all play and no work. For that chunk of change, you're not likely to buy it for your desktop, though. This keyboard and mouse set is meant to be used while you're sitting on your couch...

Good design and key arrangement. Both keyboard and mouse use AAA rechargeable batteries with a docking station. Lots of media-centric keys. Good feel to the keys. Moderately ergonomic

Charging station takes up a lot of desk or shelf space. Expensive

The Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 8000 is a good-looking but expensive option for your living-room computing. If you can stomach the price, we recommend it for couch-bound use, though it won't be a good fit for your desktop.
