iPod Touch 64GB

The new iPod Touch is still a good device but doesn't really bring anything dramatically new to the table except more space.

Apple iPod Shuffle (2012, blue)

Apple's iPod Shuffle is small, versatile, colorful, and at $49, it's arguably the least expensive device that Apple sells. For those times when you want an impossibly small way to take music with you, the iPod Shuffle is still the most widely...

The iPod Shuffle includes a sturdy built-in clip; support for playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, Genius Mixes; and a multilingual VoiceOver feature that announces track information, battery status, and menu navigation.

The 2GB capacity can't hold much; there's no headphone remote nor radio; the track controls tend to get pinched when clipping the iPod to your clothes; and the chances of you accidentally running it through the washing machine are quite high.

The Apple iPod Shuffle is an adorable way to take your favorite songs on the go, but sometimes it's too small for its own good.

Apple iPod Touch (5th generation, 32GB, blue)

Editors' note, October 15, 2012: Updated with final battery life results and screen-testing observations.

The 2012 fifth-generation iPod Touch has an excellent set of features: better front and back cameras, 1080p video recording, iOS 6, and a 4-inch Retina Display just like on the iPhone 5, in a design even thinner than the iPhone.

The iPhone 5 still beats it on performance. The Touch lacks any phone functions, and there are tablet competitors that beat the $299 Touch on price and screen size.

The latest iPod Touch is the best iPod ever, and as close to a phoneless iPhone 5 as you can get -- but its high price makes it a tough call versus cheaper tablets with larger screens.

Apple iPod Nano 2011 (8GB, pink)

Editors' note: The version of the iPod Nano introduced in October 2011 is physically indistinguishable from the version launched in 2010. A handful of new features have been introduced through a software update, including improved Nike Plus fitness...

The iPod Nano costs less than before, is easier to navigate, and includes more Nike Plus fitness tracking capabilities. It's also still the best clip-on music player money can buy.

Many features have disappeared over the years, including video playback, camcorder, microphone, speaker, games, calendar, contacts, notes, and alarm clock. The touch-screen interface is overkill, requiring more attention than the time-tested click...

The sixth generation of the iPod Nano is the smallest yet, but it comes at the expense of valuable features and practical controls.

Apple iPod touch 3G Review

Apple surprised many people at their recent iPod launch event by focusing on the iPod nano rather than their flagship touchscreen PMP, the iPod touch. Still, they saved a little magic for the third-generation model, including a lower starting price and...

With the new third-gen iPod touch, Apple have opened the same gap that’s between the iPhone 3G 8GB and the newer iPhone 3GS in their touchscreen PMP line. For Apple it makes sense: the older products allow them to hit the price sweet-spots required to...

Apple iPod Touch (third generation, 8GB)

Editors' note, June 23, 2010: With the release of iOS4 (a free upgrade for iPod Touch users) Apple has added several improvements to the iPod Touch. Because the 8GB third-generation Touch (shown here) is technically identical to the second-generation...

The third generation of Apple's iPod Touch is still the king of the hill when it comes to portable, Wi-Fi wielding media players. New additions such as Voice Control, graphics enhancements, improved accessibility, higher capacity, and a faster...

Apple's 8GB Touch doesn't share the same hardware improvements as its higher-capacity kin, and the video cameras found on the iPhone 3GS and iPod Nano remain conspicuously absent. The lack of refinements to its audio quality, hardware design, and video...

Though the updates are subtle, the third-generation iPod Touch still leaves its competitors in the dust.

Apple iPod touch (3rd Generation)

So, how do you improve the mighty iPod touch? Hmm. That's a question that seems to have Apple stumped. The third generation of iPod touches looks identical to the 2nd generation models, but the capacities and prices are improved: 8GB ($199), 32GB...

The best touch-screen portable media player you can buy. Increased capacities at lower prices. Faster processor in 32GB and 64GB models. Top-notch Web browser. iTunes improvements include Genius Mixes, Genius-based app recommendations, and app...

Bundled earbuds still stink. Audio file support doesn't include FLAC or OGG. Browser still lacks Flash support

There are few major changes from last year's touch: The best iPod around gets a speed boost, a capacity increase, a lower price tag, and some modest Genius feature improvements. One thing remains the same: The competition is still lagging.

Apple iPod shuffle (3rd Generation Update)

Apple's latest iPod shuffle now comes in two capacities: 2GB ($59), and 4GB ($79) and multiple colors including silver, black, pink, blue and green. Otherwise, it's identical to its predecessor. Read our full review of the 3rd-Generation iPod shuffle.

Compact design. Nice price for 4GB capacity. Adds support for playlists. VoiceOver feature announces song titles, informs you when the battery needs recharging

Controls built into low-quality earphones. No display. No FM tuner. Bundled USB cable is too short

The shuffle gets smaller and now it talks to you, but it still lacks a screen, a radio, and even on-player controlsthey're embedded in the earbuds.
