iPod Touch 2nd-Gen

The new Touch has a lot going for itself, though there are few new features. The most prominent happens to be the new 32GB capacity, improved battery life, external speakers, and external volume control keys. Some of you may not find the price...

The music quality remains the same, with support for AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV. A customizable EQ is still missing though.

Apple iPod Touch 2G 32GB

With the second generation of its benchmark-setting iPod Touch, Apple has managed to move the gold standard in personal music players yet another notch forward. Though existing touch owners may not find the list of upgrades compelling enough to spur a...

Outstanding build quality; untuitive interface; superb audio and video playback; lots of extras

Expensive; Wi-Fi reception could be better; missing an equalizer

Apple's refinements to the iPod Touch make it one of the slickest, most impressive media players on the market today.

iPod touch 2G (32GB)

The second-gen touch adds just enough to keep it ahead of the pack.

Good battery life ; Apps install quickly ; Built-in speaker and volume buttons ; Best touchscreen around

Accelerometer needs calibration ; Google Maps locator function is quirky ; No cut-and-paste or e-mail search

The volume buttons, speaker, quicker app installs, and improved battery life help offset minor glitches with Google Maps, as well as still-missing items like cut-and-paste and e-mail search. The iPod touch is slimmer and sexier than the latest Zune and...

Apple iPod touch 2G and nano 4G: The Engadget Review

It's been just over a week since we ran a smash-and-grab at Apple's unveiling of its newest entries to the iPod family, the nano 4G and touch 2G. The devices, both set along an evolutionary (rather than revolutionary) path have certainly been nipped,...

Access to Apple's App Store ; Wide functionality in one package ; Solid hardware design

Storage quantities are limited ; Expensive ; Did we mention they're expensive

Apple 16GB iPod touch (2G, late 2008)

Great audio playtime ; Greater capacity for similar price of original model ; Genius playlist support ; Handy hardware volume controls ; Nike + iPod receiver built-in ; Less buggy OS ; Podcast episodes play one after another

Video out requires expensive cable ; Video playtime not up to Apple’s estimates ; Doesn't charge from older accessories ; Screen looks a little dingy ; Internal speaker tinny

Apple iPod Touch 16GB MP3 Player Review - Intro

Casting the rules of grammar aside, Apple describes the new 2nd generation iPod Touch as "the funnest iPod ever". But while copy editors everywhere are grunting in disgust, this upgrade to the 1st generation Touch does much to live up to its hype, with...

Sleek new smaller design looks awesome ; Big, bright screen and excellent battery life ; Easy to use and control; Easy to find and select tracks in a large music collection ; Excellent photo album and podcast support ; Excellent overall sound quality ;...

The back scratches easily; Proprietary port means you have to buy cables from Apple ; Repeat functions are awkward ; Equalizer can't be customized ; No laternative media management programs available ; Included headphones are weak ; No Bluetooth ; No...

There's no doubt that the iPod Touch is a seriously cool piece of kit. And it does an excellent job; it is easy to use, has great audio quality, a beautiful screen and excellent battery life. But there are a few gotchas: iTunes is the only way to synch...

Apple iPod Touch (second generation, 8GB)

As the less-gifted sibling of Apple's celebrated iPhone, the iPod Touch has had to work hard to prove itself. Now in its second generation, Apple has finally given the iPod Touch a chance to shine by lowering its price (an 8GB model now runs $229),...

The second-generation Apple iPod Touch has it all: music, videos, photos, podcasts, e-mail, Web browsing, Internet radio, games, Nike+, Wi-Fi music downloads, and an App Store for adding thousands of custom features

The second-generation iPod Touch may be overwhelming to users looking for a simple music player; audio quality is average; and iTunes software is required

The second-generation iPod Touch includes features that are light-years ahead of the competition, its design has improved, and its price has finally come down to earth.

iPod Touch (Second Generation)

The second-generation iPod Touch adds speaker and volume controls--and delivers one of the most polished media players available at a lower price.

Includes a Web browser and Wi-Fi ; Beautiful design, easy to operate

Expensive

The Touch remains a tremendous and innovative device, with enticing features, unparalleled ease of use, and plenty of expandability through the App Store. As attractive as it is, though, I still believe it has room to improve. New features coupled with...

Apple iPod touch (2nd generation)

Apple's crown jewel player line gets slimmer, cheaper, and, uh, more fun.

Stunning, sprawling glass display. Access to App Store and iTunes Store via Wi-Fi. Built-in Internet browser. New Genius feature builds playlists for you

Very expensive. Fingerprint magnet. File support is still extremely Apple-centric ; Watch the iPod nano (4th Gen) and touch Video Preview

While the second-generation iPod touch is very similar to its predecessor, it has enough extra features, like Genius playlists and excellent games from the Apps Store, to maintain its standing at the top of the PMP heap.
