Sony Walkman A Series MP3 player (NWZ-A845B)

Sony's latest iPod Nano competitor has a great OLED screen, but a mediocre interface

Bright OLED screen with good contrast, inbuilt noise cancellation when used with compatible headphones

Mediocre interface and controls, $100 more expensive than an iPod Nano

The Sony A Series Walkman (NWZ-A845) MP3 player competes with the Apple iPod Nano, offering one of the best screens we've seen on a small portable media player and some nifty features to boost audio quality. It is hamstrung by an unspectacular...

Sony Walkman A845

Sony takes on the iPod nano with built-in noise-cancellation and an OLED display.

OLED display ; Competitively priced ; Good sound quality

Small display isn't ideal for video ; Bundled earphones aren't great

The A-series Walkman is a fine successor to the previous models Sony has released in its class. The built-in noise cancelling ability isn't as much of a show-stopper as Sony might hope, but the A-series is nonetheless a solidly built, well-featured and...

Sony NWZ-A845 review

This smart little Sony is the best non-Apple portable device we've seen - even beating the all-powerful Nano in some key areas

Stylish design ; big screen ; easy to populate with content ; open, weighty sound

Not as musical as the best ; disappointing headphones

The best non-Apple ultra-portable we’ve seen, and in some ways it’s better than the nano

Sony NWZ-A845 review

Concentrating on the basics of music and video pays off for Sony's iPod Nano rival

Sometimes simplicity works best, and whether by accident or design, that’s the A845’s strength

Sony Walkman NWZ-A845 review

Sony's latest Walkman is an impressive personal audio and video player

Superior quality when compared with similarly priced devices ; Good video playback ; Slim design ; Good bundled headphones

No iTunes like ecosystem (some may think that's a good thing) ; Dated design ; Limited features

They may be unable to compete with iTunes, but Sony delivers fantastic audio results

Sony Walkman NWZ-A845

Great sound, OLED screen and noise cancellation, good ear buds and lovely design. What's not to love about this Walkman? Oh yeah, that's right, the extravagant price.

Looks ; Feel ; OLED screen ; Excellent sound quality ; Noise cancellation

Price, price, price ; Slight bluish tinge to the whites ; Available in any colour you want, so long as it's black ; No gapless playback ; Did we mention the price

Unless you desperately crave the iPod Nano's camera or have a tonne of DRMed music from iTunes, the Walkman A-Series beats the pants off Apple's metallic MP3 player. The Walkman's unfortunate Australian pricing precludes us from recommending it though,...

Sony - Walkman NWZ-A845 16GB

Sony has created four distinct families of Walkman MP3 players that appear as though they have been designed to plug into the tiny gaps in Apple's product range between the all-conquering iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle. ...

We like the Sony A845 despite its long list of minor flaws. The absence of a touch screen seems a bit odd, and the limited support for music and video formats could be a real problem for some people. On the other hand if, like us, you merely want a...

Sony Walkman NWZ-A845

Apart from its sleek looks there is nothing exceptional this player has to offer

Slim, stylish design, great audio quality, good noise cancellation, well designed interface

Bundled earphones lack clarity, display not big enough for watching videos or photos, no FLAC or DivX/Xvid support, no voice recorder, bit expensive
