Philips GoGear Muse PMP

Philips as a brand has been known for producing good audio/visual products for quite some years and in recent times their GoGear players have given food for thought for music enthusiasts and critics alike. The latest GoGear Muse has hit the market and...

To sum it up, the whole experience was bittersweet. Though I’d like to say more bitter than sweet. The screen as mentioned earlier was THE biggest issue. The rest of the features worked out fine but the player is meant to provide a good experience...

Philips GoGear Muse review

The Philips GoGear Muse (SA2MUS16S) is an MPEG4 player that looks to offer a range of features without breaking the bank. The Muse is lovingly crafted from brushed metal so it looks fantastic, but does the rest of the package deliver?

Build quality, format support, external microSD card support, HDMI

Disconnected, screen isn't great

Although the Philips GoGear Muse doesn't do anything critically wrong, it might find itself outclassed by its rivals

Philips GoGear Muse review

The Philips GoGear Muse is an exceptionally smart-looking portable music and video player. It has a big, sharp touchscreen display and a beautiful brushed-metal chassis that fits neatly into a pocket.

The Philips GoGear Muse is a stunning piece of engineering that feels bombproof. It’s also multitalented, offering decent-quality audio, video, a radio and voice recording. However, navigation can be frustrating.

Philips GoGear Muse 16GB review

Philips' GoGear Muse looks and feels classier than older models thanks to its brushed metal back. The right-handed design is unchanged, which will put off left-handed users.

It isn't cheap, but Philips' GoGear Muse is an excellent MP3 player with great image quality and good video support.

Philips is hoping its Muse can make up for its lack of touchscreen with noise-cancelling nous and video vim

A solid media player with wide format support, but the noise-cancelling and controls disappoint

Philips GoGear Muse review

The GoGear Muse is a better media player than Philips' previous offerings, as it supports a wider range of video and audio formats, and features a much more attractive design. But these enhancements still don't make up for the poor screen and...

Sleek design ; Good format support ; Works with downloaded BBC iPlayer content

Navigation is slow and laborious ; Noise-cancelling technology isn't very effective

Conclusion The Philips GoGear Muse is a better player than the GoGear Opus, mainly because it boasts a slicker design and on-board noise cancelling. But it still suffers from many of the same problems as the older model, such as a so-so screen and poor...

Philips GoGear Muse

A classy entrant from Philips with plenty of appeal - once you get past a few foibles

Bigger screen than rivals; extensive file compatibility; plays iPlayer downloads; simple, smooth interface; good performance

Landscape design and button layout won't be for everyone; awkward headphone jack connection

Philips GoGear Muse 16GB

In terms of performance this Philips is perfectly adequate, but there are much better choices out there – without even including Apple

Nice looks and solid build ; (mini) HDMI output ; very good software

Lacks audio and video sparkle ; operation isn’t as slick as it could be

Philips GoGear Muse 8GB

This Philips GoGear will impress those who crave for good sound quality but it's hard to fall in love with its touch controls.

Very good sound ; Wide file format support ; 720p HD video playback with HDMI-out

Unresponsive touchscreen ; Sluggish interface ; Works only in landscape mode ; Slightly overpriced

This PMP scores high on sound, build quality and file format support. It plays 720p HD video with HDMI-out option to to let you connect to your HDTV. But, its sluggish touch controls spoiled the whole user experience and you can get a better...
