Pure Digital Sonus-1XT

As Apple is to digital music players, Pure is to digital radio - a pioneer, a first mover, a charismatic brand that shouts "accept no substitute". Faced with competition from every direction, Pure is fighting back with the Sonus-1XT. And it's very cool.

Great sound, Great looks, Voice/alarm innovations and lots more besides

120 still seems quite a lot

We'd argue that the improved sonic performance still makes the Sonus worth the money, but we wouldn't be at all surprised if market pressures mean that Pure brings out a stereo version for roughly the same money, six months down the line

PURE Digital Sonus-1XT review

The Sonus-1XT is a friendly but unobtrusive radio. The voice feedback is useful and entertaining (and customisable if the novelty wears off). The talking clock and twin alarms make it best suited for the bedroom, although it wouldn't look out of place...

Simple setup ; Touch-sensitive handle that can be tapped to hear time and alarm info ; Pleasant recorded voice rather than synthesised speech ; Good range of outputs ; Upgradeable

Twist-and-press knob can be confusing ; Jerky scrolling text ; Cannot pause or record radio, except to a second device

The Sonus-1XT uses Volume Equalisation Technology (VET) to keep the volume constant across stations. It is supposed to subtly adjust the relative loudness of your favourite stations over time, so you can switch between them without touching the volume...
