Slacker Portable MP3 Player

After a few delays and a lot of grassroots hype, the Slacker Portable Internet radio is finally available. Starting at $200 for the 2GB model, this ambitious music-only device features a 4-inch wide screen, built-in Wi-Fi, and an excellent Web service....

Informative 4-inch screen ; Innovative concept

Limited storage ; Buggy navigation interface

Even with all the bugs, it's hard not to love the Slacker independent approach to things. It doesn't do video at all, but this is an ambitious player. Slacker's Web-based music service is great and accurately matches your musical tastes to tunes you'll...

Slacker Portable

This exciting new player loads your Slacker Internet radio selections via Wi-Fi—but it's not without its issues.

Refreshes music automatically via Wi-Fi. Huge screen for album art, artist bios. Can also store MP3s and WMAs. Ability to ban songs you hate.

Bulky for a PMP. Touchstrip control doesn't work well. Jumpy playback. No video or photo support. ; Watch the Slacker Portable Video Review!

Antidote to music collection boredom. Solid construction. Displays artwork and substantial band bios. Remembers Wi-Fi passwords.Free service option, or /month gets you unlimited skipping, no ads, and the ability to save songs. Refreshes via WiFi while...

Quirky touch strip (disable it and use the jog dial). Can only skip 6 songs per hour per station and must listen to ads in free mode. Cached stations don’t leave much room for your own music (500MB, 1.5GB, or 4GB, depending on the model). No...
