This review is actually for the A3000 [20 gb] which is the A1000/A1200's bigger cousin.

Nice looks, can play ATRAC files, up to double storage capacity if using ATRAC

Pretty bad software, including the "new" Connect player, screen gets washed out in sun, finger-print and dust magnet

I already had a Sony MD MZ something and was sick and tired to have to carry mini disks with me all the time in order to have a variety of music to listen to on the bus.

It's only logical that the hardware would be great. I mean, that's what historically Sony has been doing for a living (now it does many other things). But the software... Oh god!. Maybe that's why a renown competitor software (and hardware) company is...
