Sony Network Walkman NW-E505

The Sony NW-E505 looks like a very fancy cigarette lighter, but it's actually a 512MB MP3 player with an integrated FM tuner. Although the device doesn't pack extras such as voice-recording ability, and Sony's SonicStage software still leaves a lot to...

Very long battery life. Attractive design. Decent earbuds.

SonicStage software is clunky and difficult to use. Repeat/Sound button is awkwardly located and tough to press.

The Sony Network Walkman NW-E505 offers good sound quality in a very attractive package. The battery life can't be beat, but the required SonicStage software and lack of WMA support hold it back a bit.

DONT BUY.. waste of money

You have to authorize it to make it work on your computer. So that mean you can only use it on one computer. If you have to replace that computer for some reason your stuck. The software, that you have no choice in using, sucks to say the least. I used...

Avoid when purchasing an Mp3 player

this player is very dissapointing. non-color screen that is small and impossible to read in good lighting, unefficient navigation, and low capacity will have you regretting your decision and wanting to grab a new player soon. also sonicstage is a pain....

durable, good battery life, resistant to water

screen is small and impossible to reads in sunlight, navigation is not efficient, only 512 mb or 1 gb memory

iPods don't come close, its a shame mp3 has become THE music file standard, when Atrac is better

All around excellent. And by far much more stylish than an iPod. If you can do without the white headphone wires, this is the better device. The OLED screen is much nicer than the apple displays, plus a comparably priced iPod shuffle doesn't even have...

Atrac3 sounds better than mp3 and takes WAAAY less memory, Sonic Stage is better than iTunes--by far

iTunes music store is better than Sony's Connect music store

Sony NW-E505 Network Walkman (512MB, Pink)

The bottom line is Sony Music put the skids on this product being the best product in the market. The SonicStage software is complicated to use, puts the music in a PROPRIETARY format ( ie not MP3) , but most important the software WILL NOT LET YOU...

Style & Size, Battery life

Cost vs features compared to other MP3 players, SonicStage Software Limitation to transfer legal music is A BIG PAIN and BS

Software for this sucks

i had to go to the third tier level of tech support from sony..and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong with the mp3 player. i'll admit the battery life is amazing...i only had to charge it once for the short time i had it. but in the end i...

the ATRAC compression component that sony uses is poor. the software didnt even fully install on my computer

Installation experience was horrible

This was a Christmas present to my wife. After a five hour ordeal in which the software included with the unit forced us to jump through unbelievable numbers of hoops just to be functional on a two-year-old computer which easily met the hardware...

Looks good, sounded good, charged quickly from computer's USB port

Software installation a nightmare; had to completely uninstall the privacy service we use to make it work; gift certificate code for five free songs kept coming up invalid

Product Specifications

The elegant NW-E500 series really pushes the boundaries for MP3 players. What's so brilliant about the players is that they all come with an inbuilt FM digital tuner. So now you can swap from your own sounds to those on the radio in a second. Now there's always something new to listen to. Like the NW-E100 and NW-E400 series, the design of the NW-E500 series players is everything you'd hope for. They come with revolutionary clear Organic EL three-line displays, which not only look hi-tech but also means searching for your favorite tracks is a breeze. To suit your style these players come in a range of cool colors. The NW-E500 players also share the NW-E400 series' impressive rechargeable battery (offering up to fifty hours of life before you need to charge them up again) as well as its MP3/ATRAC3plus compatibility and invaluable quick charge function - just three minutes will give you three hours of playback. So handy when you're in a rush.
