The sound quality of the S-638 is amazing. I'm hearing things that I've never heard before in albums that I've listened to for years.

Earbud cable length. They cable isn't short, but 4 to 6 more inches would've been perfect ; Proprietary USB data/charger connection. Seems a little fragile, but should be fine if proper care is taken when plugging the USB cable into the player
