Tonium Pacemaker (60GB) review: Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

The second-generation of the DJ-friendly Pacemaker MP3 player offers a more affordable price than the original model, and new features, such as automatic tempo matching, expanded effects, audio time-stretching, and a master EQ.

The slashed price of the Pacemaker comes at the cost of a smaller hard drive, and the complaints we had about the previous model's complicated interface design haven't changed.

The Pacemaker is a fun tool for DJs on the go. It's not our first choice for playing a DJ gig, but it gets the job done, and the price is a fair reflection of its features and portable design.

Tonium Pacemaker 60GB

When we reviewed the original Pacemaker in June of 2008, it topped our list of digital DJ toys, but the accompanying $800 price tag was hard to swallow. Revamped for 2009, the second-generation of the Pacemaker MP3 player includes all the features of...

Tonium Pacemaker (120 GB) review: Tonium Pacemaker (120 GB)

Tonium Pacemaker (120 GB)

The Tonium Pacemaker is a DJ-oriented portable audio player with professional-grade audio quality, switchable headphone impedance, Mac and PC compatibility, and an inventive mix recording feature.

The Pacemaker's price may be too high for armchair DJs and its features and form too restrictive for club use. Like most DJ equipment, the Pacemaker takes some practice to master.

As a pocket-size sketchpad for DJs on the go, the Pacemaker is peerless.

Review: Pacemaker Pacemaker Portable DJ

I've been a recreational DJ ever since I was 15 and discovered my first 12-inch. These days when I play out, I tend to switch...

Beautifully engineered; looks like the gorgeous byproduct of a mind-meld between Jonathan Ive and Walter de’Silva. 120 GB memory. Battery holds enough juice for five hours of mix-and-play time

Doesn’t act like an iPod. Complicated menu and mixing options make the device not very a practical instrument. 0 could buy you a round-trip ticket to Spain, Berlin or some other hotbed of electronic music

Tonium Pacemaker Pocket DJ Review and Demo

I wish I was a DJ. Or at least, I wish I was talented enough to use the Tonium Pacemaker Pocket DJ effectively. I play drums but I can't mix beats, so I had to call in reinforcements. My good friend DJ T.A.I. offered to help out with taking a look at...

Gadgetell Review: The Tonium Pacemaker

The Tonium Pacemaker is a DJ tool that lets you make mixes using songs on its 60GB internal hard drive using a combination of buttons and a circular touchpad. Controlling tempos, effects like reverb, audio properties such as treble and bass are done...

At $499.99, the price can seem very steep if you just want to play DJ. However, if making mixes is a passion of yours, the Pacemaker is incredibly useful. While I am not a DJ, I believe that you could work out rough mixes on the Pacemaker while on...

Tonium Pacemaker

Handheld mixing for DJs! What will they think of next?

At the centre of things is the device's circular touchpad, which sits directly beneath a circular screen at the top. This is used to scroll quickly through track lists, adjust gain and volume levels, bass and treble. It's also used to adjust the speed...

Tonium Pacemaker

The Pacemaker is a pricey but addictive toy for beat mixers, and a good way to experiment with song combos without having to lug records and turntables around.

Heaps of storage space. Great software integration. Online community for sharing and rating mixes.

Expensive. Takes a while to master the controls. Slider control can be fiddly.

A nifty, space-saving toy for beat mixers, but it won't replace a set of decks.
