Acer Costomer Service

The only reason I am submitting this review is Acer's response to a faulty hard drive that developed almost immediately on an Aspire AOD257. I had to hunt a bit for the telephone customer service number, but once I reached them (a person), she was very...

In my experience (1 laptop 3 years, 1 netbook 2 months) Acer is a fairly good quality and inexpensive computer brand. It is what it is, and if you feel more comfortable paying more for a more illustrious brand, be my guest

Bloatware. I always install a fresh operating system ; Newegg limits text length in these screens. I wanted to say more about Acer in "Other Thoughts

Max (RAM) Confusion

My ideal config is hardware upgrades to the RAM, Hard Drive and Battery (4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM Drive, at least 500GB as well as the 6-cell battery) and installing Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Intel's spec claim it's Atom N570 is dual core, 64-bit and...

Let me start by saying that I love this netbook BUT I'd do with more RAM for sure. The factory says the max is 2GB but I don't buy it... I think this statement has to do with Win 7 Starter than with the hardware itself. I'm gonna try a 4GB stck of DDR3...

The Wi-Fi isn't overwhelming and it'll freeze when streaming video sometimes. Like I said I think this is due to it having only 1GB of RAM

After 1 month all is well - but

We have a 6 month old 11.6 inch Acer Timeline with the old Intel I3 at work. An inch or so larger L x W + another 1/2 lb or so - but much more satisfying (@ almost 2X the price). Maybe longer battery life. The I3/I5 (new versions) are much better...

Same as before. Build quality excellent. Size is near perfect ; Windows 7 Starter is OK for a netbook - limited menuing makes configuration a bit more dificult, but now looks and runs just like 7 Home on my other Acer

Buttons on edge of chassis creates problems when working in lap or laying down. NOT a good location where slight stray thumb touches trigger mouse clicks ; 2 finger pad is not useful. Insufficient screen to pinch text to see more of page. Now...

Fairly solid netbook

You can sometimes get audible volume by using Windows' loudness equalization feature. -Out of the two stick so RAM I bought for this thing, the Crucial 2GB PC10600 SODIMM (CT25664BC1339) worked. -You may see people talking about removing the rubber...

Value. High battery life, decent usability for an extremely low price ; 4 hours of battery life watching near 720p video, 8 hours browsing ; One of the few white netbooks available ; Plays most videos mostly without hitching, however there is...

Have to upgrade the RAM to 2GB if you want videos (youtube, netflix) to play mostly smoothly ; Upgrading the RAM is difficult and not recommended for everyone ; Did not recognize the first 4GB DDR3 SODIMM I threw in there (would not POST), although...

Acer 257D - improvements

The 2009 Acer Aspire Revo w/ Atom can handle 4 GB or more - why not an Aspire in 2011? Windows 7 Start is OK. More difficult to customize but with 1 hour of tweaks 7 Start runs like the 7Home on my Acer Revo; for working computer 7Starter is mostly...

Very satisfying build quality. Size within 1/2 inch of Ipad in all dimensions. Met all expectations except for memory upgrade. Very useful and a near weightless addition to my briefcase. 5 minute upgrade much easier than some previous Acer models

Could not do extended desktop (Acer or 7 Starter?) ; A business netbook is needed 1024x768 or a bit more. The 257 accepts upgrade to 2GB only. Updated bios and chipset but no-go with a 4GB Kingston DDR3 ; Bloatware is a bit reduced but is persistent...
