Review Acer Aspire V5-171-53314G50ass Subnotebook

Mini ultrabook. A handy 11.6-inch notebook with a low-voltage Cor

Light, handy; Easy maintenance access; Good battery life

Barely sufficient battery life; Flexible chassis; High temperatures under load; TFT not anti-glare; Wobbly keyboard; No AC adapter

Tip: Lenovo offers its old ThinkPad X121e with Intel Core i3-2367M starting from 390 Euros (~$501, Free DOS Version). It has similar performance (up to the HD Graphics), longer battery life, matte display, and a better keyboard at a lower price.

Acer Aspire V5-561PG-6686

The Acer Aspire V5-561PG-6686 is a modestly priced, midrange desktop-replacement laptop, but aside from better-than-average graphics performance, it fails to impress.

Touch screen. Discrete AMD graphics. Full port selection

Bland design. Basic 1,366-by-768 resolution. Hard drive has smaller capacity and slows performance

The Acer Aspire V5-561PG-6686 ($699.99) is a desktop-replacement laptop that wades in the shallow end of the midrange category, just crossing the line from entry-level systems on price. The slim laptop gets the price bump, thanks to an AMD Radeon R7...

Acer Aspire V5-171-6675

The Aspire V5-171-6675 offers smooth Windows 8 performance for a very low price, but short battery life undermines this 11-inch notebook's portability.

Compact design ; Crisp display ; Impressive overall performance for a budget price

Very short battery life; Inconsistent touchpad ; Low-grade speakers

Click to EnlargeAcer's V5-171-6675 offers speedy performance, a comfortable keyboard and great portability at a budget-friendly price. You won't find a more feature-rich 11-inch machine for $449. However, unless you plan on using this Acer mostly in...

Acer Aspire V5-171 Notebook Review: The Death and Rebirth of the Netbook

With all of the coverage we've done of ultrabooks in recent months, it's easy to forget that the big vendors are still out there plugging away with more basic, fundamental designs. Intel has expanded the definition of "ultrabook" enough that most...

While I try to approach my reviews without much bias, or at the very least leave that bias checked at the door, I'll admit I haven't had the best impressions of Acer's products when I've reviewed them, and I certainly never imagined I'd ever buy one...

Acer Aspire V5 review: an 11-inch Ivy Bridge laptop for $550

More Info Acer launches Ultrabook-like Aspire V5 series, we go hands-on (video) Acer Aspire V5 notebooks get Ivy Bridge treatment, shipping by

Light, compact design ; Good specs for price

Sticky touchpad ; Cramped keyboard ; Unimpressive battery life

The Acer Aspire V5 offers solid specs for a budget-priced 11-inch laptop, but that doesn't make it a must-buy.

Acer Aspire V5-171-6867

So, here's the situation: I walk up to you at a coffee shop and put an 11-inch laptop on the table. It's compact. It looks like a Netbook. I tell you it has a Core i5 processor, a 500GB hard drive, 6GB of RAM. Then I tell you it's $550. You're...

An excellent set of specs and features in the Acer Aspire V5-171-6867 include a Core i5 processor, 6GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, HDMI, USB 3.0, and even Bluetooth, all for a surprisingly low price, and stuffed into a very small Netbook-like body.

It has a cramped-feeling keyboard and touch pad, weak battery life, and poor speakers, plus an uninspired, thick design.

The Acer Aspire V5-171-6867 crams the horsepower of a full-fledged budget ultrabook into an 11-inch ultraportable, for several hundred dollars less than most equivalent products. It's a great budget laptop to consider, but sacrifices have been made to...

Acer Aspire V5-171-6867

The Acer Aspire V5-171-6867 is fast and cheap, but this ultraportable's woefully short battery life is a deal-breaker.

Fast overall performance for low price; Bright display; Comfortable keyboard

Very short battery life; Bottom runs hot; Inconsistent touchpad; Weak speakers

Click to EnlargeWe really have to wonder why Acer decided to release this ultraportable. The $549 Aspire V5-171-6867 offers plenty of pep at a low price, but that matters little when the battery dies so quickly. It also doesn't help that this Acer has...

Acer Aspire V5 171-6867

You don't hear much about netbooks anymore. This once-mighty category of laptops is getting lost in a chasm between tablets—the iPads and Android slates of the world—and ultrabooks—the MacBook Airs and Windows ultralights ditto. Acer is a player in...

Core i5 processor and 500GB hard drive ; Sharp, bright screen ; Light weight ; Full set of ports ; Removable battery

Humdrum design ; Crunchy keys ; Short keyboard deck ; Fan noise ; Brief battery life

As light as an ultrabook and as powerful as a notebook, this 11.6-inch Aspire gives students and professionals a solid, general-purpose mobile solution at $550. Its battery life and plain appearance won’t wow you, though.

Acer Aspire V5-171-6605

With ultraportable laptops being all the rage recently, it's no surprise that Acer is trying to beat the rest of the crowd by releasing the Aspire V5-171-6605, a cheaply-priced competitor. Despite having a lower price than most, it doesn't sacrifice on...

Good considering where it stands in the market.

Mine is 1.5ghz. This machine is fine for on the go computing and light home duty. It plays 1080p videos without stuttering. It muli-tasks surprisingly well. There's really no cost comparable competition right now. For $280 it delivers. To my surprise...
