Asus Eee PC 900 (white, Windows XP)

By Dan Ackerman (zdnet.com)

When we first saw the diminutive Asus Eee PC back in the fall of 2007, we were duly impressed by its capability to mix small size with a small price, and rightly predicted it would be popular with consumers and influential with other PC makers ...

Bigger screen in same small package ; new touch pad gesture controls ; long battery life

Not as much storage space as the Linux version ; same old Celeron CPU as original Eee PC ; keyboard just as cramped

The 9-inch Asus Eee PC 900 adds a bigger screen and a larger capacity solid-state hard drive than its 7-inch precursor, but the new price has passed the point of an impulse purchase.

ASUS Eee PC 900: Is Bigger Better

By Mary Branscombe (tomsguide.com)

Increasing the screen size does more than let you see a whole Web page; it changes the emphasis of the ASUS Eee PC 900 from portability to compromise.

One thing that hasn't changed is the processor inside the Eee. It's the same Intel Celeron 900MHz CPU on a 915GM motherboard. That's where the Eee trumps the Via C7-M HP's Mini-Note, which otherwise has a far better keyboard, screen quality and much ...

EEE PC 900

By Darren Gladstone (pcworld.com)

Late last year, Asus broke open the mini-notebook category with the slight, light, and affordable Eee PC 4G. Who wouldn't want a machine that weighs 2 pounds and measures about 8.9 by 6.5 by 1.4 inches (width by depth by height)? At $399, the Linux ...

Multitouch pad actually works in Windows Crisp, 8.9-inch screen

Small keyboard not suited for adult hands

Inside, you'll find most of the same Eee guts that folks have come to know and love, including a 900-MHz Intel CPU and a 4GB internal hard drive (it also ships with an 8GB SD Card). That meager amount of hard-drive space was insufficient real estate ...

Since that time, we've seen a refreshed model that offers Windows XP (the Eee...

"Loved EEE 900 when first came out. But EEE 1000H best."

By Richard Kirchknopf (cnet.com)

Get the EEE 1000H instead. Fixes the few thi...

SSD is reliable and shock proof. 8.9" Screen is readable and only occasionally a little small. Nice, low weight. Nice and compact is great for backpacks.

Keyboard cramped. No bluetooth. Split 4 G C: drive and 8 G D: drive a hassle. Processor is not as nice as the hyperthreaded Atom, which has 3 speed steps and better power consumption/performance. Europeans got the shaft on the battery capacity.

"Good mobile choice for travel needs and portability."

By idris&kenya (cnet.com)

My laptop needs require instant, easy access, not the added drama of weight and briefcases. Movies, DVD's, and other pleasures are ehjoyed via more appropriate devices. This machine fits that criterior.

Speed requires memory and that remains the major defiicit. The hefty pricetag considering the above, and absent minicam rounds out my cautionary approach.

"Beware, battery drain problem even when switched off"

By Mark92992 (cnet.com)

It woujld be a great machine were if not for ...

Otherwise it's great.

The battery drains by about 10% per day even when switched off. This means that after about 9 days powered off, the battery will be empty. This makes this product almost not fit for use (you need a mains always nearby)
