Asus Eee PC 901 (white, Windows XP)

By (cnet.com)

Much-improved battery life ; new mouse and quick-launch buttons ; still highly portable and reasonably priced

New Atom CPU is slower than previous Celeron Eee PC, slightly bigger than the Eee 900 ; price is creeping up to the full-size laptop range

The long-awaited Asus Eee PC 901 is the best version of this inexpensive Netbook yet, but it's facing increased competition from the likes of HP, Dell, and MSI.

Asus Eee PC 901

By Nathan Edwards (maximumpc.com)

Asus's Eee PC kick-started the netbook craze and remains the brand most associated with the category. Early iterations were praised for their low-cost Linux-based architecture, but lately Asus has ratcheted up its product line to compete with higher ...

Five hour battery life

Limited storage capacity, cramped keyboard, and slow benchmark results

Indeed, the 901 took more than twice as long to complete our Photoshop benchmark as the other two netbooks here. On the other hand, the 901's standard six-cell battery far outstripped the competition's three-cells, eking out more than five and a half ...

"XP takes all memory"

By gottleib (cnet.com)

Don't get XP - 20GB Ram on Linux models but o...

It does all that is said - assuming you've just started using it - but see cons for XP

'does all it says' - until you have used it a couple of days - then it fills up all C drive (4GB) ...why?... because XP has taken over 3GB!!. It is a crippling restriction of usability.

"Nifty but has some drawbacks"

By Mic111pb (cnet.com)

After I first got this set up I really wanted...

small, good specs, fast enough to not seem slow, comes in different colors, nice touch pad with tap touch and easy to use mouse buttons, comes with case and other extras

screen is terrible, no instructions on how to reset the pointers to D drive, my docs, temp etc. This is a must do so should be included as release notes. Keyboard too small.

"One of the best Netbooks you can buy!"

By hiitsmelenny (cnet.com)

After researching for a couple of weeks on an...

Portability, speed, price (you should not spend more than 450, i bought mine for 380), battery, eee community, bluetooth, webcam, to make up for small storage space eee gives i think a 50gb online storage space, and ability to upgrade by yourself.

I can understand peoples comments on the touchpad's sensitivity, causing the cursor to jump when you accidentally touch it when typing, all i can say is don't touch it. I got used to the keyboard right away and i have medium size hands for a male.
