Review: Dell Latitude 2100

It may be designed for children, but that doesn't mean the Latitude 2100 can't be enjoyed by big kids too.

Cool, tough rubber exterior coating. Adult-sized keyboard also accommodates the smallest hands. Responsive trackpad. Snappy performance. Clear window on front of chassis meant for student’s name tag

Tattletale web browsing light a little too Big Brother for our tastes. Optional extras drive up the price tag quickly. Chunky monkey power adapter

Dell Latitude 2100 review: Dell Latitude 2100

Dell Latitude 2100

Rugged design with rubber cover; touch-screen option.

Tiny keyboard; big and heavy for a Netbook.

Aimed primarily at school kids, the Dell Latitude 2100 is an interesting new take on the Netbook. It's worth a look if the unique features--including an especially rugged design and a touch screen--are important to you.

Dell Latitude 2100

Families, don't be surprised if you see the Dell Latitude 2100 show up in a classroom near you. As I've written in the past, Dell is aggressively targeting the K-8 education market with this line of rugged-looking netbooks. At the time I played with a...

A good touchscreen implementation ; Rugged-like

Big and bulky ; Skimps on hard drive space

Dell courts classrooms with this Latitude's kid-friendly touchscreen, but the big-boned netbook skimps on space.

Review Dell Latitude 2100 Netbook

Mobile class room Connoisseurs are well acquainted with Dell's La

Robust and resistant case; Long battery life; Well-equipped; Good keyboard; Many options; Availble with Linux; Many support options; Silent system noise

High weight; Bulky design; Adverse interface arrangement; Lurid indicator-LEDs; Small touch screen; low-contrast display, not outdoor-capable; difficult to upgrade/maintain

You should take a look at the Asus EeePC T91, the Gigabyte Touchnote T1028x, the Wortmann Terra Mobile Edu III, and the Unimall Classmate, which all come with a touch display.

Dell Latitude 2100

The Latitude 2100 is an interesting answer to customising for the needs of schools. As a by-product, Dell has created a robust little netbook that can just as easily be tossed around by any techie who likes to work roughly.

Quite rugged, Business level warranty, Good keyboard, Gigabit Ethernet, Decent battery life

Network activity light isn't very granular, 576-pixel screen height can be limiting, Polarising looks

A ruggedised 10.1in Dell netbook designed specifically for students

Competitive price, touch screen, rugged chassis, long battery life, comfortable keyboard

802.11n wireless networking isn't standard, touch screen not sensitive at extreme edges, no on-screen volume indicator

Armed with an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, the Dell Latitude 2100 performs well. Thanks to its 6-cell battery it also lasts a long time away from an outlet. It's a comfortable netbook to use and its rugged design should...
