HP Mini 1000 Mi

The Mini 1000 was already a solid netbook, but the addition of HP's custom Ubuntu build to the Mi edition only sweetens the deal.

Custom Ubuntu build is intuitive and efficient. Stylish design. Gorgeous glass screen. Lightweight. Speedy enough performance with Atom processor

Mouse buttons are still awkwardly placed

Mini 1000 MI

Don't blink. Somewhere among the launches of the HP Mini 1000, the business-based Mini 2140, and the ridiculous, high-fashion Mini 1000 Vivian Tam Edition, HP released the Mini 1000 Mi. The difference this time around: the operating system. HP ships...

Great keyboard Surprisingly good speakers

Horrible trackpad button placement Linux interface learning curve

The only real downer is the price of the Mi edition. You see, while HP says that these machines start at $400, our configuration costs $460. You'd figure that with Linux, we'd get a bit more of a price break on this netbook

HP Mini 1000 (Mi)

This ultralight netbook offers a comfortable keyboard and sleek Linux interface, but its sluggishness and relatively high price hold it back.

The HP Mini 1000 Mi Series has something that its XP counterpart does not: an innovative, accessible Linux interface that lets you do all the things you'd normally do with a netbook: surf the Web, check e-mail, write documents, and access your favorite...

HP Mini 1000 Review

The HP Mini 1000 looks just like a condensed Pavilion notebook, with a sleek and smooth body, glossy Imprint Finish, and color coordinated design. Compared to the older Mini-Note 2133 HP took extra steps to reduce the thickness of the body; removing...

Best netbook keyboard ; Upgrade-friendly spring-loaded RAM slot ; Good looking design with excellent build quality ; Very good speakers for a netbook

Highly reflective screen if you have the Infinity 10.2” panel ; Proprietary adapter needed for VGA out ; No clear option for an extended battery

With the screen brightness set to about 60 percent and wireless active the HP Mini 1000 managed 2 hours and 55 minutes of battery life before it had to go into sleep mode. This is a big step up when you look at the Mini-Note 2133 which only managed 2...

HP Mini 1000 Review

HP Mini 1000

HP's newest netbook, the Mini 1000, is lighter, svelter, stronger, better tasting, and yes, even cheaper than its predecessor.

Reasonably snappy performance on par with other Atom-based netbooks. SSD model includes a built-in thumb drive and extra, recessed USB port. Includes upscale laptop features, such as a docking port and an on/off switch for the trackpad. Gorgeous,...

Extra $80 doesn't sound like much, but it's 17 percent more expensive than the Lenovo S10. Prone to tipping backwards when opened. Mouse button placement is love-it or hate-it relationship.

Fantastic Keyboard Surprisingly good sound

Glossy Screen is hard-to-see in daylight Side-mounted mouse buttons

With the Mini 1000, HP does a good job keeping most of the things that worked on the 2133, while upping the performance and managing to cut prices in the process--well, not counting the fashionista-flavored model. Is a Mini 1000 right for you? If...

HP Mini 1000 (10-Inch, Windows XP) Review

HP's second netbook sports a very good keyboard, a crisp 10-inch display, but we wish it had a larger battery.

Very good Wi-Fi range, Roomy keyboard, Bright, glossy display, Stylish, compact design, Very good Wi-Fi range

No six-cell battery option at launch, Slow boot time, Only two USB ports, and VGA requires adapter, Relatively small, sluggish hard drive

Our appreciation for the Mini 1000's design lagged when we saw the touchpad, which has only been slightly altered from that on the 2133. The 2.4 x 1.1-inch touchpad is disappointingly small and vertically very narrow, resulting in a lot of...

HP Mini 1000

The Mini 1000 is a solid second act for HP that could teach other netbooks a thing or two about design. It could stand to learn a few things from its peers, as well.

Runs on the Intel Atom platform. Gorgeous, big (10-inch) glass screen. Best-looking design. Lighter than its rivals. WWAN, bigger battery, and excellent Ubuntu distro options later this year. Superior keyboard

Mouse buttons are awkwardly placed. Slow-spinning hard drives. VGA-out requires a dongle
