Review MSI FX600 Notebook

Quadrophony. The new all-rounder series is technologically on the

Low energy consumption; Cool case; Good sound; Insusceptible surfaces

Loud under load; Low contrast; Display lacks anti-glare coating; Slow hard disk; Low gaming performance; Spongy keyboard

Asus N71JV – same performance but with a better sound with a subwoofer. Sony Vaio VPC-F11Z1/E – without subwoofer, more expensive but clearly of higher performance. Samsung NP-R780 Harry – cheaper and has better gaming performance with the GT 330M....

MSI Wind U100

MSI has been moving into the notebook market in a big way over the past few years, with forays into business and gaming notebooks, and, this summer, netbooks, with the Wind U100. We have to say, we're impressed. Read on for the rest of the review!

Wider keyboard than most NetBooks

Larger notebook, need to spend a bit extra for the 6-cell battery

The corner hinges on the Wind are not quite as sturdy as the Eee PC's barrel hinge or the Aspire One's, but it's still solid. The matte screen is quite bright under AC power and readable at even 25 percent backlighting

MSI Wind U100 (Linux)

The term "netbooks" may not be familiar to some of you. It's used to describe the newly launched Intel atom platform that features in sub 10-inch laptops. These machines are inexpensive, have relatively modest specifications, and are designed for...

The MSI Wind is a great device that offers excellent battery life, fluid multitasking, and a sober design. At its price of Rs 25,000 it's a bit expensive – but with many more models expected in this range, the prices will definitely tumble. Still, if...

MSI X600

Discrete graphics ; Skinny for a 15.4 inch wide screen

CPU a little weak for a big screen

The MSI offers a terrific keyboard and excellent graphics in its class, but a big screen laptop combined with a single core processor makes for an anemic showing.

MSI X600 Proves Big Screens Can Go With Thin Bodies

The X600 is one hell of a thin and light computer. If it weren't for a poorly positioned number pad, this notebook would be perfect.

Superslim profile and a 15.6-inch LCD (with good graphics) are a great combination. Price includes a free optical drive. Amazing amount of hard drive space. Under five pounds ; TIRED Keypad/keyboard mashup is a horrendous design error. Slight bendiness...

Keypad/keyboard mashup is a horrendous design error. Slight bendiness in the LCD panel. Mostly plastic construction

MSI Wind U100

It's been almost a year since the original Asus Eee 701 appeared stateside, making traditional ultra-portables look fat with its size and weight, sending prices plunging with its $400 price tag, and triggering a landslide of imitators. In that time,...

Bright and spacious 10-inch screen; lightweight and portable; powerful

Three-cell battery may be inadequate; build quality could be a tad better

For the moment, MSI's Wind definitively blows away the competition.

MSI Wind U90X

This 8.9-inch version of the popular MSI Wind mini-notebook is done in by a poor Linux OS and short battery life.

The MSI Wind U90X' keyboard is the largest and most comfortable of any 8.9-inch mini-notebook on the market, and we like its spacious hard drive. But the SUSE Linux operating system was a mistake, and for that we cannot recommend the U90X over the Acer...

Grown-Up Mini Packs More Than Your Tween's Laptop

HP 2133 Mini-Note PC $749 Roomy keyboard and nice looks, but too expensive, hot to the touch, and loud. Asus Eee PC 901 $599 Formerly innovative Eee PC

Grown-up looks (as opposed to “day care” or “developing-country villager”). Largest screen among minis. Includes three USB ports, a VGA monitor connector and an SD slot

Lack of DVD is understandable, but it still makes us cry. Hard drive emits mysterious sounds. Two-hour battery life is just OK

Wind U100

MSI's Wind NB U100 is one of the first Intel Atom-based mini-notebooks to appear. And like the Acer's Aspire One, it gives a clear idea of what the bargain-priced CPU can handle. Other components include 1GB of RAM, an 80GB 2.5-inch hard drive, and...

Reasonably Bright 10-inch display Hardy construction

Not much in the way of extra software Not much in the way of extra software

There are some solid reasons to consider MSI's Wind. It's small and fairly light (about 2.6 pounds), and it's sturdy enough to take a beating. But other solidly-built mini-notebooks are just around the corner, including Lenovo's S10 and probably an...
