Asphalt 3D (3DS)

Asphalt 3D marks the second time that an entry in this racing series has accompanied the launch of a Nintendo handheld, with Asphalt: Urban GT hitting shelves alongside the DS in 2004. The Asphalt series hasn't changed much since then; it still aims to...

But all the graphics in the world would mean nothing if the game weren't fun. And luckily, Asphalt has fun to spare. And it's addicting. I kept saying to myself, "One more race!" and before I knew it, the 3DS would be out of battery. Sure, Asphalt 3D...

Review: Asphalt 3D

Asphalt 3D stutters from the starting line and never quite catches up to the rest of the Nintendo 3DS launch titles, thanks to terrible physics, stiff controls and poor graphics.

Plenty of interesting tracks and cars; maxing out your speed boosts can be fun; supports up to six people for local multiplayer

Inconsistent, terrible physics; frustrating level progression; stiff driving mechanics; overly aggressive drivers may put off casual players; graphics look worse than older Asphalt games on mobile devices

Ultimately, Asphalt 3D is an unremarkable but serviceable racer that too often doesn't put its best foot forward. It's a shame it didn't capitalize on its stronger aspects to deliver a more consistently thrilling experience, but even with its flaws,...

Gameloft's previous Asphalt Urban GT releases on the Nintendo DS may have brought success for the company, but with the launch of Asphalt 3D on the Nintendo 3DS it definitely has much stiffer competition in the form of Namco Bandai's Ridge Racer 3D,...
