When SEGA first announced that they were putting a new Shinobi game out for the Nintendo 3DS, I really didn't know what to think. When it was made apparent that Griptonite Games was developing it, I was quite worried that it wouldn't be up to par....

Shinobi Review


Shinobi is a challenging ninja adventure that requires skillful play and rewards it with a bevy of unlocks and achievements.

Hard but fair combat pushes you to improve ; Lots of achievements and unlockables ; Early levels feature excellent atmosphere and design ; Difficulty settings scale a variety of factors for more accessible play

Long late-game levels aren't great for short play sessions ; Uninspired vehicle segments

Shinobi Nintendo 3DS Review


Need perspective? Try Ghosts'n Goblins, and even that barely approaches Shinobi on Very Hard.

Insanely challenging, wealth of unlockables, solid use of 3D, gorgeous cut scenes, dramatic ninja music, tons of achievements

Some unimpressive graphics, later levels don't feel as properly balanced as the first

Shinobi's more than just tough. It's brutal. It's at times unfair, and it'll take you behind the old woodshed and unmercifully beat you into submission.
