LaCie Ethernet Big Disk

The 2TB LaCie Ethernet Big Disk is appropriately named, we suppose. Other potential monikers: the LaCie Ethernet Big Headache, the LaCie Ethernet Sucks at Networking, or perhaps even the LaCie Ethernet Where Did My Drive Go. We jest, but there's truth...

If you drag files to the folders, they copy over, giving you a speedy network backup solution

Where to begin? You'll spend as much time transferring files as you will trying to get the Ethernet Big Disk to work

The Big Disk delivered acceptable speeds, but not anything to cheer about. The device lies squarely in third place in this roundup of four, but speeds are irrelevant if you can’t transfer files to or from the device using Network Neighborhood. Since...

LaCie Ethernet Big Disk Test Report

This NAS is best for straight-up file-sharing over a network; it lacks the broader features of other drives.

Solid industrial design ; Hassle-free setup

Software is basic, with few frills

LaCie 2big Triple (2TB)

In the world of external drives and system backups, LaCie has made a solid and unforgettable name for itself. Hot on the heels of numerous product releases earlier this summer, LaCie has a new heavyweight champ to handle your backup needs. The LaCie...

Four user-selectable RAID options; supports USB 2.0 ; FireWire 400 and FireWire 800

Rotating RAID dial is a little cumbersome; expensive

We at DigitalTrends give the 2big Triple a huge thumbs up.

LaCie Biggest FW800 review: LaCie Biggest FW800

The LaCie Biggest FW800 is a four-bay external SATA RAID drive that supports several levels of RAID, hot-swapping, and a variety of connection options. It comes in two capacities: 1 terabyte ($1,050) and 2 terabytes ($1,530). Connection options include...

Four connection options: USB 2.0, FW400, FW800, and serial/RS-232; front-mounted LCD advises you of the status of the drive; supports several RAID arrays; supports a variety of file systems; drives are hot-swappable.

To hot-swap drives, you'll need to purchase LaCie's preinstalled drive trays; no backup utility; has fewer features and is more expensive than comparably sized NAS drives with RAID arrays.

If you need the fast throughput of a locally connected RAID array, the LaCie Biggest FW800 is a good choice, but if you don't mind the slower transfer speeds of Ethernet, a NAS RAID array can be less expensive and offer more features.

LaCie 120 review: LaCie 120

Excellent image quality; dual inputs; easy to navigate onscreen menu.

Very expensive; included ambient light screen hinders adjustability; lacks portrait/landscape adjustability; lacks cable management system.

The LaCie 120 offers excellent performance and ergonomic flexibility, but it's much more expensive than other LCDs that are just slightly inferior.

Ethernet Disk 500GB Hard Drive

This expandable rack-size network drive performed well in our tests.

This large-capacity, easy-to-use drive is expandable and fairly fast. We had only small quibbles with it

LaCie d2 DVD+/-RW Double Layer

The LaCie 16X d2 DVD+/-RW Double Layer external burner has many of the same strengths offered by earlier models: a tough, rack-mountable aluminum chassis, an auto-sensing dual FireWire/USB 2.0 interface, and a generous assortment of Roxio applications...

Rugged rack-mountable chassis; dual Mac/PC support; 4X +R Double Layer and 16X +R and -R single-layer recording; fast CD-burning; consistently high output quality

No bundled DivX support or MP3 encoder; slow DVD ripping

LaCie's 16X d2 is a reliable, solidly built external DVD rewriter that sells for a reasonable price. Like most outboard models, its DVD-ripping speeds are sluggish, but its superior CD-burning performance, support for 4X dual-layer and 16X single-layer...

LaCie Ethernet Disk

The LaCie Ethernet Disk is an equal-opportunity device; it supports file sharing for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS clients alike, and also supports file transfer via HTTP and FTP. It is the only device in this roundup that runs embedded Windows (with a...

Rack mountable; supports additional drives via FireWire

Large footprint; supports additional drives via USB 1.1; not a print server; 25-user limit; no logging or reporting features

This large-footprint NAS device supports file sharing for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS as well as via HTTP and FTP.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC AF Review Round-Up

The Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC is a very good standard zoom and a viable alternative to the Nikon offerings in this range. Generally it is capable to produce very sharp results although the corner performance leaves a bit to be desired at 17mm at...
